Glad you care about helping Memphis, Mr. Speaker. May I suggest you start by listening to the voters who overwhelmingly said yes to the three referendums less than a year ago. Memphians spoke loud and clear on what they wanted to make us safe: - 81% for requiring handgun permits and mandated safe storage - 80% to ban assault rifles in city limits - 84% supporting red-flag laws I would say you could also stop taking checks from the gun lobby & pushing policies that flood our communities with more guns, but we know that won’t happen. So perhaps, just GET OUT OF OUR WAY let us do the work to keep our families safe.

Today, I had the pleasure of joining @mayorleeharris in asking the Shelby County Board of Commissioners to provide $5.5 million in recurring funding for a focused crime lab in Shelby County. I want to thank Mayor Harris for his support and the County Commission for their interest in the facility. As I told the Commission, the most significant thing this lab can do for us is increase our solve rate. With ballistics testing, digital forensics, and rapid DNA, we can solve crimes faster and hold #offendersaccountable. This is not a replacement for the work already being done by the TBI. Today's The Daily Memphian reports that 2024 homicides in the City of Memphis are down 25% compared to 2023. That's a level not seen since 2019. This is good news to start 2025, but we all know there is more to do. It is essential we work together to continue to drive down violent crime in our community.
