A work of patience: The #NASAWebb mirror deployment has started yesterday, moving ~1 mm/day for the next ~10 days for a total of 12.5 mm. After that, they’ll be ready for @NASAWebb ultimate goal: mirror alignment! #JWST

Finally the opening! Details: Mirror and sunshields are on scale 1:50. Spacecraft bus (warm side) is white buttercream frosted cake; OTE and ISIM (anti-sun side) is black buttercream frosted cake. Mirror is cookies painted with edible gold dust, on mirror glaze galaxy cake. #JWST

Today is huge day for #JWST! It’s time for the so called mid-boom deployment. With this, the five-layer sunshield, of the size of a tennis court, will be pulled out. This is essential to the cooling of the observatory, and therefore to its proper functioning! #NASAWebb
