Absolutely correct. I always ask people who insist MPs should be "local", to list their political heroes. So, I ask, how many of them were local MPs? Which is a variation of William Hague's point. If you insist every MP has to be local, you don't give aspirants many options.

Spot on. We’ve come to fetishise “local representatives” far too much, a symptom of our politics becoming smaller and more parochial. What we need is quality national politicians. If they have to be “parachuted” in, and they spend more time in SW1 than the constituency, so be it.

@LouiseMensch @FreeUkraine91 Free transit of the Straits would be a victory for the USA. It is the hinge of the war and this should be the strategic objective of the USA: open the straits and keep them open.
