Rayan Cherki is in 𝐀 𝐋𝐄𝐀𝐆𝐔𝐄 𝐎𝐅 𝐇𝐈𝐒 𝐎𝐖𝐍! He has the HIGHEST Key Passes per 90 and xAssists per 90 in Europe’s Top 7 leagues 🤯 Is he the best creator in the world?… [via @DataMB_]

@Sp1thfc I get the point to an extent, but it is still a bit disingenuous. Replace Cherki with someone not as liked by many football fanbases, e.g. Bruno, and the reaction wouldn't be great either. Of course there's no excusing racist abuse.

@hitaboutit Shots on goal 26, goals 16. Conversion rate 61% Look at Haaland's shots on goal, conversion rate and goals. Then talk. It's our system that's holding players like Gyokeres back, our system doesn't play for the traditional striker

Merino & Kai thrived at CF. We were told if Merino could score then Gyokeres could score. We warned you he wouldn’t.

@AyWoFa @DataMB_ Pep willingly made him unavailable for the Madrid game in what was clearly an obvious blunder.

@DataMB_ If you look at our catastrophic performances and losses to Bodo Glimt and Real Madrid away, Nunes was unavailable for both matches. He's become very important. Even our loss at United (2-0), which could have been 5-0, Nunes was not played. One of the first names on the team sheet

Even in praise there’s still a weird stigma around Khusa. I must be missing these mistakes he’s still trying to iron out, because he’s pretty much flawless every time I watch him, absolutely love the lad.
Henry Winter@henrywinter

In praise of Abdukodir Khusanov. The Manchester City centre-back turned 22 only last month, is still developing his game, still ironing out mistakes, but increasingly impresses with his speed, athleticism and determination. Also his simple but effective distribution and love for the physical fray. At Wembley, his sprint back to dispossess the breaking Kai Havertz was pickpocketing at pace. Khusanov did well in the Carabao Cup final as he gradually got to grips with Viktor Gyokeres. Still prone to a rash challenge. He took out Gyokeres but the booking didn’t faze him. Re-focused on winning his duels for the next hour. His character has never been in doubt. On his City debut in Jan 2025, he didn’t speak the language and had had only two training sessions. He made two early mistakes, gifted Chelsea a route to goal and was then booked for fouling Cole Palmer. But he got on with the game and his career at City. “Our Uzbek warrior” the club calls him. Good scouting. City recruited him from Lens for £33.6m after he’d played only 31 games. Also great initial scouting by Lens when he was at Energetik-BGU in Minsk. Khusanov still has elements to improve, especially in aerial challenges (he’s 6ft 1in), but looks to have many of the strengths to mature into a top centre-half. And he is only just 22. Khusanov is in competition with some heavyweight names such as Ruben Dias and John Stones (when fit). Josko Gvardiol was playing well before suffering a tibial fracture to his right leg. Gvardiol better at left centre-back where Marc Guehi has landed successfully. Gvardiol also plays left-back well (where Nico O’Reilly, who prefers, is flourishing). Nathan Ake, 31, partnered Khusanov at Wembley. Guardiola has outstanding options at centre-back, great role models for Khusanov to learn from. Guardiola Also academy graduate Max Alleyne. Khusanov can also play right-back. He seems very humble. Khusanov had to be encouraged by Foden, Haaland and Donnarumma to go across to take the acclaim of the City fans at Wembley. Almost bashful. Nothing diffident about his defending, though. Khusanov looks a big prospect for City. #MCFC

@wilhelmwicklund @Sp1thfc When teams are more inconsistent, definitely. But the fact that the peak of this Arsenal team is not that high, especially compared to previous winners, means that this process likely can't be repeated next year as other teams improve.

@GCNA_ @Sp1thfc You might be correct. But then again, isn’t a high floor more important when you’re trying to win the league? It takes more out of the players it seems, so we’ll have to see if they last the distance of course.

@GBR7___ @_sneakernyame Khusanov would have been great regardless. He was getting plaudits even after City lost 1-2 to Madrid because of his performance. It's not uniquely an Arsenal thing, but a case where more eyes were on the game since it was a final.

Khusanov might be the new Ramos, but he's very calm and quiet. He's a no-nonsense defender, his energy and pace are unmatched.

@TheAthleticFC It's normal, teams always take the mick when they have the upper hand against us. When we do it, there would be wall to wall coverage for days.

What do Gary Neville, Pep Guardiola and Ben White have in common? They were all unimpressed by Rayan Cherki’s showboating in Manchester City’s Carabao Cup win over Arsenal. You can understand why Arsenal wouldn't have taken kindly to Cherki's keepie-uppies — particularly White, who duly left one on the Frenchman in the moments that followed. But for the neutrals, it was just a bit of fun... right? 📝 @NickMiller79 bit.ly/4uKHo9F?utm_so…
