Pickering’s Law: If you ever find yourself thinking “It would really help my argument right now if I pretend to be an idiot!”, it’s time to stop and reconsider whether the point you’re arguing for is actually any good.

@MSidgwick 2025 was the fourth year in a row that AEW has noticeably cooled off after All In/Out. Is this a coincidence, or a result of the timing of the Fulham/Jaguars season? Should fans simply accept this end of year slump, and treat it like the off-season you’ve been calling for?

What is my next move? More pertinently: who are you to think you know what transpires in the shadows? We're doing a Q&A pod today. Ask a Q below, and you might just get an A.

Andy Burnham's 'Manchesterism' is simply more standard-issue Labourism. So why did he choose to misappropriate the name of one of the most important political movements in British history for his uninspiring agenda, asks Bright Blue's @GDRPickering: conservativehome.com/2026/02/13/geo…

Reading Murray Rothbard often marks a profound shift. Once you've seriously engaged with his work, especially the uncompromising logic of his anarcho-capitalist framework, your entire perspective on the state, property, power, and society tends to change in a lasting way. It's not just adopting a few policy preferences; it's a fundamental reorientation toward viewing the state as inherently predatory and coercive. Today, though, most people who identify as libertarians got there primarily through Ron Paul. His campaigns, his "End the Fed" message, his anti-war stance, and his ability to reach a broad audience in 2008 and 2012 sparked a massive influx of newcomers. Ron Paul's positions draw heavily from Rothbard, but there's a meaningful difference in tone and impact. Ron Paul tends to draw people in through a principled, accessible, electorally-oriented critique of the status quo. Often starting with foreign policy, monetary issues, or civil liberties. Rothbard, by contrast, signals something deeper: you've gone straight to the radical root, embracing full private-property anarchism, natural-rights ethics, and a rejection of even minimal state legitimacy. Many who start with Ron Paul eventually discover Rothbard and realize the ideas were already there, just presented in a more palatable, politically viable package. But the full Rothbardian lens is what often turns a casual admirer into someone who truly can't unsee the state's role as a monopolistic aggressor. If you consider yourself a libertarian and have not yet discovered Rothbard, you're standing at the edge of the deepest and most consistent version of the ideas that first drew you in. Start with Anatomy of the State, then proceed to For a New Liberty and The Ethics of Liberty.

“The best part of being a Fellow is the sense of belonging to a robust scholarly community and the support to achieve our academic goals. Applicants should know that while everyone has their own research project, challenging and constructive dialogue is encouraged. An ideal candidate is someone who is serious about pursuing an academic career, passionate about their research, and appreciates the intellectual legacy of Ludwig von Mises.” - Manuel García Gojon mises.org/events/researc…

@realDavidBJr Don’t worry, Youth Parliament is just a debating club for the 300 lamest kids in the country. (By the way, does every school have at least one kid who speaks and acts as if they’re already a politician? Mine had roughly one per year. Perhaps this is some unhappy law of nature.)
