The latest negative Column posted TBT may be the most disingenuous of all! These Former City Council/Commissioners who tell us we don’t have the money for our current needs (Did you guys not plan well for the future while you were in office?) are telling current lawmakers not to INVEST in a project that would produce that needed revenue in increased tax revenue and tourist dollars to help cover the costs! That seems disingenuous! They point to nebulous historic economic studies on ancient “stadium deals” that did not include a $8-10 Billion private investment mixed-use build outs like this one…done by “experts” from college academics who’ve never run a business as proof this much different deal won’t work. But yet they reject 3 separate SPECIFIC independent economic studies done by INDUSTRY experts whose studies are routinely used to help finance actual billion dollar developments! Which studies do you think would be more accurate? Why wouldn’t they point to the obviously more accurate studies? Because they don’t fit their disingenuous narrative. They mention the Miami stadium which was a horrible stadium deal! But as they undoubtedly know because they did their research (?) that was 70% public money and 30% private money. THIS stadium is 58% private to 42% public, a massive difference. Miami also paid significant interest on their portion long-term where in THIS DEAL, the county is paying it out over the first four years to avoid excessive interest payments. Plus, in Miami, there is no surrounding mixed use project to fuel billions of property tax dollars into the county and city. The two situations could not be more different but yet this group of esteemed former county commissioners and city council folks want to fool you with this comparison. Why are they doing that? It’s extremely disingenuous. They say that the CIT tax use is immoral unethical, and perhaps illegal when they know damn well that the county attorney has already determined that this is a legal use of the funds. Most of the contribution is going to be used on infrastructure for the entire project not just the stadium, which the CIT was clearly meant for. They also try to connect current inflation and your personal financial struggles to the stadium deal. I assure you whether this passes or not, things are still going to be expensive and the county is not going to turn around and give the money to you to ease your burden. Another very disingenuous claim and political trick used by politicians that think we are stupid. Then this group of esteemed officials tells you that this should go to a vote of the people, when they spent 50 combined years, making decisions for the people without letting them vote! That’s pretty rich and dare I say disingenuous. Finally, they say “call their bluff” Which would basically allow the Rays to talk to 10 other cities that are dying for this type of private investment and a major league baseball team! Say NO to a project that would bring in an estimated 10 million visitors to Hillsborough County annually and produce a 55 to $75 billion economic impact over 30 years. They say let the Rays go. We’re already a major league city. I wonder if they were on the council if they would vote to send our beloved Rays to Orlando? It’s easy to tell other public officials to call their bluff when it doesn’t cost you any political capital. So to John Dingfelder, Orlando Gudes and Linda Saul Sena former Tampa City Council members and Mariella Smith and Pat Kemp, former Hillsborough County commissioners, thanks for your extremely disingenuous slanted and purposefully inaccurate column, but we’re moving forward with this incredible opportunity that is going to bring back 40,000 construction jobs, 10 to 12,000 high paying permanent jobs and $55 billion economic impact! Clearly something you never could conceive or achieve! For more straight talk on this stadium deal, watch the JP Peterson show M-F 10-Noon on X/YouTube/Facebook and

@AlexTran677026 I always thought a better ending would be freeman's character shooting Doe, to save brad's character from a life of hate. If I remember correctly, freeman's character was retiring that week. Would have been a great sacrifice for the young detective.

The ending of Se7en (1995) stands as one of the most haunting in cinema history. The killer John Doe orchestrates events so that Detective Mills embodies the seventh deadly sin—Wrath—when he shoots Doe after discovering his wife has been murdered. The film closes not with the triumph of justice, but with evil forcing humanity into its trap. Se7en reveals that evil is not always punished in the way we expect, and at times, people themselves become the instruments through which evil fulfills its design.

Only in Texas can somebody bring out a chicken fried steak so big your first thought is: “there’s no way that’s for one person.” The Wagon Wheel in Eagle Pass serves absolute perfection covered in gravy and built with zero respect for reasonable portions. Texas doesn’t do small. Could you eat the whole thing?

The same people who lectured us 10yrs ago that “the downtown model” is “the only model MLB will approve moving forward” seem pretty damn convinced the Rays will crush it by building a development alongside a highway.

Yikes: 49ers GM John Lynch reveals that he is using AI to scout players and help in the draft process. “Yeah. A lot. Just like the rest of the world. I think if you aren’t using it, you’re already behind. … Just like you at home planning a travel itinerary—you can just ask the thing, and it can spit out pretty good things. Some pretty good ideas.” 😵‍💫😵‍💫😵‍💫

Wendy’s CEO was ready to drop $20 million on new digital menu boards. The goal? To change the price of your burger in real-time. If the drive-thru got busy, your lunch suddenly cost more. They called it "dynamic pricing." We called it what it was: a $20 million investment to price-gouge the consumer. But then the internet exploded. The backlash was so fierce and so fast that Wendy's folded almost overnight. They tried to play us, and we shut it down. Never forget who actually holds the power. What corporate giant needs this kind of reality check next?

There's a long list of reasons I can give for why I hate the Rays and why they've been my second most hated franchise since growing up. One amongst them is #that awful brand of guardsball voodoo they get away with doing. Here's a short snippet how that looks this year compared to us: AVG and Hardhit% rankings on ground balls: AVG Hardhit% TB .325 (2nd) 32.1% (24th) NYY .212 (25th) 39.2% (6th) "But the Rays are fast!! Obviously they're going to outperform on ground balls!!!" Sprint Speed # of guys >= 27.0 mph TB 27.0 (11th-14th) 6 NYY .212 (21st-26th) 5 Let's also use xBA and BA - xBA for good measure, which factors in sprint speed as well. xBA BA - xBA TB .248 (15th) .058 (1st) NYY .252 (13th) -.037 (24th) Hey maybe NYY's ground balls are just more jammed into the ground and they're hitting better launch angled ground balls. Let's check some LA's on GBs. LA % of GBs >= 0° % of GBs >= 5° TB -16° (29th) 25.5% (23rd) 13.8% (15th) NYY -14° (22nd-T) 30.8% (9th) 8.9% (30th)

At this point, it’s fair to ask if this sportstalk dude is getting money from the Rays — or if he’s angling for a future job with them. He’s been leading a public campaign for billions in taxpayer subsidies….and now it’s a political pressure campaign.

PS - getting $3B in development financed downtown was a HEAVY lift for Jeff Vinik. I’d love someone to explain to me how the hell the Rays plan to finance $10B in development in West Tampa 😂
Cigar City Mat@mat_pagano

@_j3r3my_T @StadiumShadow The area has had a CRA for 30 years and nothing has been built and HC is deteriorating. This is not just a stadium plan. It's a $10 billion project: stadium, entertainment district, rebuilt HC. Developers are asking for 20% of the cost. This is not welfare. This is investment.
