The Older Person Emergency Network (OPEN) team provide an alternative care pathway (pre-hospital care pathway) for older, more vulnerable patients to be treated at home or aged care facility rather than coming into the ED. They not only assess and treat the person but also assess the home and social environment, organising the supports they require. I learned today that my trusty "Queen Square" tendon hammer was actually invented by a Sister Wintle in 1925. There is little recognition of female contributions in medical history, and precious few female eponyms. I shall refer to it henceforth as the "Wintle Hammer" instead.
