@GJCMDP @ThomasHall17 You're confusing a failure to understand the benefits of bilingualism with a disagreement regarding its representation of education.

@Skeleman71 It would be the exact same crowd of hysterical liberals who would complain. The rest of us have real issues to worry about, such as the death of the two young pilots.

@Skeleman71 This a straw man argument, of course they would offer condolences in English. English is the language of North America.

It wouldn't make a footnote on the bottom page of the local newspaper. Same is true if someone in working in Nunavut failed to offer condolences in inuktitut. There is no reason to pretend that anyone else acts like the petulant spoiled children in Quebec when it comes to languages.

@PeterHRatcliffe Funny how everyone in Quebec, English and French, understands the importance, but so many Canadians continue to dismiss it and think it’s perfectly fine to not bother addressing 25% of their citizens in their language. I’m sure you’d have been fine with subtitles. 🙄

It a shame, in my opinion, that the public condolences for two dead heroic pilots became politicized around languages. Grief isn’t political and doesn’t care what language a caring message arrived in.

@AR_Salimii @kazeemolubunmi @MarkJCarney I don’t want to be that guy, but how was this not obvious? It’s literally why people said they won’t vote for Kamala. She would have been no different and honestly this is why people say the won’t be doing lesser of two evil. Because who does it benefit?

I deeply regret my vote. You offered no condolences for the 168 Iranian schoolchildren slaughtered by U.S. and Israeli missiles, yet you were quick to mourn 2 people killed in the UAE. You reward child-killers and sanction the victims of aggression. @MarkJCarney, you are not the leader this peace-loving, humanitarian country deserves.
Mark Carney@MarkJCarney

Canada shares its condolences with the UAE following the latest Iranian attack that took the lives of two civilians in Abu Dhabi.    We strongly condemn Iran’s unprovoked attacks on the UAE and across the region, and reiterate the importance of opening secure access through the Strait of Hormuz. Canada supports efforts to safeguard international shipping and ensure freedom of navigation.

@AR_Salimii @MarkJCarney Maybe the Iranians shouldn't use 168 Iranian schoolchildren as human shields? Did it ever occur to the Iranians not to put children's schools next to military bases? Who do you think decided to do that and why?

@AR_Salimii @ColleenPolitics @MarkJCarney I agree. I had so much hope, for the first time in decades. I won’t be voting until/unless we get a leader courageous enough to stand up to this evil. The only thing worse than absolute indifference is saying you care, recognizing the problem and choosing to ignore it. I’m done.

The Carney government’s response to U.S.-Israeli military aggression against Iran is both shocking and a deep disappointment. Bowing to Netanyahu and Trump won't buy Canada safety in the long run. This is NOT the foreign policy Canadians voted for. @MarkJCarney, you have betrayed the trust of your voters.

@NBCNews Oh no a crying child! Whelp I guess illegal immigrants get to keep breaking laws, killing innocent civilians and committing fraud on a massive level. All while American taxpayers foot the bill for schools, housing and healthcare. Great fucking argument.

You bought this on yourselves. If you had lived in peace with your neighbours, not acted like poodles for the Iraq regime, built on the economic legacy left to you by Israel and used the millions in Aid poured in by other countries for good rather than evil you would now not be in this position.

I don’t know if anyone will care about what I’m saying, but you must read this tweet to understand what is happening in Gaza. Before the war, Gaza’s area was 336 square kilometers, with over two million people, one of the most densely populated places on Earth. We lived under a suffocating siege by land, sea, and air. Electricity reached us only six hours a day, water barely two days a week. Unemployment was high, despite many being university graduates. Then the war came… and the reality became harsher than anyone could imagine. Today, we live in a small part of Gaza, barely enough space, with unbearable population density. People have been forced to set up tents next to garbage dumps, on streets, inside hospital courtyards, and in any space they can find. Military sites are being established along new borders, and entire areas seized, including my home, which no longer exists. Our homes have turned into dilapidated tents unfit for living. For years, we have had no electricity, and water is extremely hard to get. Famine strikes repeatedly, no education for children, no hospitals capable of treating patients, diseases and viruses are spreading, unemployment is suffocating, displacement never stops. Arrests, continuous bombings, blockade on aid, travel restrictions, even reconstruction materials are blocked, as if the destruction must remain. Every day, we witness unbearable scenes we document them with cameras and broadcast live, yet nothing changes. People collapse in the streets from hunger, die from diseases, homes collapse on those inside. All this pain… moves no one. I have realized that, in the eyes of this world, we are merely numbers nothing more. And I do not understand why we are treated with such cruelty.

Very good to see this. Very. We can do this. We can be principled and demand respect for human life without sacrificing either at the altar of “pragmatism” or “realism”. Canada calls for an independent investigation into the killing of 168 school kids in Iran 👇
Canada in Geneva 🍁@CanadaGeneva

Today, at the #HRC, Canada expressed shock at the tragic deaths of 168 schoolchildren in Minab, Iran. Canada supports an independent, impartial, and transparent investigation. All parties must de-escalate and protect civilians.

@CharlesTingler Again, The catechism of St Pius X was specifically addressing priests. Yes, the Bible is good and useful, but only if Catholic translations with approved footnotes are used. It was not absolutely necessary for salvation as Catholics would hear scripture readings at mass.

Yesterday my sponsor and I talked about Scripture, and something he said really bothered me. He said, “In the old days we didn’t read the Bible. The Church didn’t want people reading it and figuring everything out for themselves.” I understand the Church’s reasoning, but as a former Protestant I still struggle with that claim, especially since popes encouraged laypeople to read Scripture even before Vatican II, including in the Catechism of Pope Pius X. Catholics need to strengthen their approach to exegesis. Protestants have been ahead in that area for far too long.

@goldengembe @RezaNasri1 Claiming all Israel wants is to live in peace, but do their neighbours live in peace, as much as they do? Is the border as it was 80 years ago? Are Palestinians as free as Israelis? Lebanese as free? Are their borders respected? Any responsibility for the never ending unrest?

@GJCMDP @RezaNasri1 Every country has issues. The difference is whether kids are taught to build or to hate. That’s the real question. But it seems like you expect more from Israel than you do from Hamas. That says a lot.

The idea that every sovereign country near Israel must cap its conventional weapons, limit its defensive capabilities, restrict missile and fighter jet ranges, and even dismantle its own military industries—just so Israel can "feel safe"—is completely absurd. Which other nation on Earth demands and receives this kind of privilege? This exceptionalism is especially ridiculous coming from a regime with such an inherently aggressive posture and track record in the region.

No one is asking for disarmament. Imagine your neighbors raising their kids to see your destruction as a goal. Kids are taught — from a young age that “People of the Book” are enemies to be fought. This is about escalation and instability, not “feeling safe.” That’s not belief. That’s indoctrination ! #Israel Will Defend Itself. The $Book Stands and No one will destroy it ! Keep trying Pursue your agenda so blindly that your own people starving and pay the price 🍌🫣

It's crazy the cultural divide between Quebec and the ROC. I don't see how it is controversial that the CEO should at least say a few french words of condolences for a French speaking pilot who died. It's strange that some people don't see why this might be upsetting.
