So with the 1 year anniversary of having purchased "X Premium" recently past, I'm going to reflect on a few things about how Xitter has changed over the past year, and decade and change since I was first one here. This will probably not interest anyone, even the few followers I regularly interact with, but I honestly cannot think of anywhere else to put it, and I will be pinning this post to my page to also give people an idea of what kind of poster I am, for new and potential followers. If you actually care to read, be prepared, as this one will be article length. I'll begin by saying that I joined twitter to participate in the "culture wars" before they were such a thing. Back when I started this was for me, largely Atheist vs Theist, then it became Atheist vs Atheist, then extreme left vs extreme right, and now everyone slightly right of center vs everyone slightly left. I found the old character limit, and even the new one, awful for saying anything of substance, but like it or not, social media is the new battlefield and even though at the time it was insufferably leftist, this is the battlefield where the war was going on, so in order to influence or even keep up with that battle, I had to be here, so if I ever seem combative, this is why. I have no illusions of seriously changing hearts and minds, but it was a good space to get an idea of what the online public at large was thinking, see what was being argued and sharpen my own convictions, or change my mind when I found a new perspective, and if anyone in the audience comes along the ride, so much the better. To quote @monsterhunter45 , internet arguing is a spectator sport, it's for the benefit of the audience not the person you're debating. I have since found TwittiX much more useful for keeping up with breaking news than for actual interactions, and for following niche interests. I've also had the privilege of meeting a few new friends and acquaintances on here, as well as reconnecting with some from the old (and in some cases I really mean OLD) internet days. So now, my impressions since Musk took over what is now X .com. When he first stepped in and started making changes, Elon created something pretty close to what I think twitter was meant to be, a true public square of open discussion and debate. Without the left leaning slant, there was perhaps, for a brief while, some productive talks going on. Yes there were still echo chambers, but they were local and often bled over into public. Unfortunately Elon's vision didn't align with mine and he truly decided to turn X into the PVP server of social media. In and of itself this wasn't a bad thing, as it was fairly balanced apart from when he himself artificially boosted exposure with retweets and such, however the re-jiggering of the algorithm to use AI to reward rage-bait in the guise of "engagement" turned this into an absolute shithole. Between Indian bots and the algorithm constantly shoving rage bait in my face, it really has become a muckdive. So why then continue with Premium? Well in short, I like the long article length. Despite all the recent crap, I still find it worthwhile to interact meaningfully, even if these are a minimum of the total volume of tweets that I see or post. I am going to be making a more conscious effort to have more meaningful interactions on matters of substance that I care about and less on snipes and random bullshit. As much as I enjoy the dopamine hit of a tweet "breaching containment" and hitting thousands or tens of thousands of likes, these are almost always meaningless snark and generate no meaningful discussion. I much prefer to get 10 likes and 3 replies that result in a decent talk, then 10k+ that are nothing but random memes and emojis in response. It's not in my nature to pass up the chance for snark here and there, but I am going to attempt, for the upcoming year, to focus on productive discussion and not dopamine hits via snarky replies. I invite anyone still live and following me to jump in the discussion, I do listen, learn and sometimes even change my mind. And if I seem a little combative still, remember I did join for the PVP, and I've spent the majority of my adult life punching and strangling people for a living , or teaching others to do the same. So don't be afraid to tell me to dial it back a bit, For anyone who read this far, I thank you for taking the time and look forwards to a great, and hopefully more meaningful, 2026 on X with you. I hope you've enjoyed the ride so far.

In 2007, when Chuck Norris visited Marines in Western Iraq, he demanded to get away from large bases and instead visit the small FOBs and COPs. MNF-W said it would be too dangerous, but Norris insisted and in the end, got his way. I'm forever grateful for the example he set, and this awesome choke hold.

@Shadow_ofaDoubt @nyaraVT I agree. I don’t speak for all trans people of course, but most I’ve met feel the say way. Respect is earned. I can’t force you to be ok with me. I can only treat you with respect in order to request some for myself.

It’s crazy how as a trans woman I’m just expected to “debate” my existence and validity as a woman, while governments criminalise our healthcare There is no nuance to be had when the media and politicians want us dead, but I’m supposed to convince every transphobe of my position

@Chesiepop @nyaraVT That is a reasonable attitude. I would suggest that if the majority of trans people held the same attitude and comforted themselves as you do, then most of today's issues would be non-issues.

@Shadow_ofaDoubt @nyaraVT If I’m being perfectly honest, MOST people I’ve encountered (because I certainly don’t pass all the way yet) have been chill. Even if they don’t see me the way I see me. Which I’m fine with. I don’t require everyone to believe the way I do, just don’t be a dick. That’s all.

@Chesiepop @nyaraVT I agree with you entirely on your final sentence. I also do not think anyone needs to be the target of slander to put anyone in office. The peoblem emerges when accurate descriptions are called slander.

@Shadow_ofaDoubt @nyaraVT I agree with you to a point. I don’t agree with forcing anyone to believe the way I do. And I think most trans people feel the same way. We just don’t want to be the target of media smears and slander just to put someone in office.

People can identify however rhey choose and it is of no issue to me whatsoever. It is only when they insist that I ans others agree with their identification that there is any sort of problem. I'm not sure where you get the idea that it is some sort fun do deal with, but I assure you, it isn't.

@Shadow_ofaDoubt @nyaraVT Blah blah dude, you’re being obtuse to try and prove some point. The issue is, I’m not even sure why. Does it really matter to you how people identify? And ya, it is edgy. Because you know what you say harms people and you do it for fun.

Despite PM Anthony Albanese: : Giving millions in taxpayer-funded grants to mosques : Sending millions in aid to the Middle East / Gaza : Recognising Palestine, to the praise of Hamas : Allowing unvetted asylum seekers from Hamas-controlled Gaza into Australia : Secretly trying to bring back ISIS bride terrorists : Allowing terror supporters to mourn designated terrorist Khomeini in mosques : Blaming the far right for the Bondi Islamic terrorist attack : Attending Ramadan festivals during street prayer takeovers : Ignoring requests for assistance from the US / Donald Trump Despite all this & more, they still tried to lynch Albanese at the mosque while screaming Allahu Akbar and calling him a dog. There is a lesson in that somewhere about radical islam but sadly it won't be learnt.

The Heretical Liberal 🇨🇦
They dont "hate" their grandkids. My mother is one of these Liberal boomer women and she loves us and her grandkids more than anything in the world. They genuinely believe in the Liberal Project and think it works, because it DID for them. They just dont realize how much the world has changed and hiw wrong they are now. They dont see the negative effects liberalism has wrought on society. They dont see the disastrous effects of Suicidal Empathy. They grew up in a world where rhe social contract worked. The World worked. They grew up in a high-trust, culturally homogenous society, went to school at affordable costs, worked hard and got the promised rewards, bought homes at low rates and many became millionaires as those housing prices doubled several times over. The system worked for them, its no wonder they support it. What they dont realize is the system theyre supporting - the system that worked - no longer exists. It has been replaced by something else, a grotesque doppelganger zombified version of the system it replaced; similar enough on the surface to fool the well-meaning but ultimately uninterested Boomers into thinking its the same one that worked for them. There is no convincing these ppl. There is also no reason to hate them or believe they hate us. They do not. They're just old and set in their ways, and to expect them to change at this point is to expect a 65+ person to throw away their entire worldview (and one that worked very well for them). Its just not to happen. Theyll be gone soon enough, and the axis of politics will change again, as it always does.

Female Canadian Boomers back the Liberals over the Conservatives by more than 6 to 1. 74% vs 12%. Why do they hate their grandkids this much?

If players ignore the story, I simply let the story happen without them. There are stakes to every quest, if there aren't why do it? So if you choose to setup a food stall instead of answering the call to adventure, don't be surprised if the goblins you ignored overrun the town your stand is in and kill all your customers.

On the subject of player agency. I am MOSTLY all for it. But if you're all set up to play Keep on the Borderlands, and one player decides his character's greatest desire is to open a shawarma stand right now, he's a dickhead and should be treated as such. It's a game of heroic fantasy. If you're not here to do heroic shit, get out.

If I claimed to be 6'4, 22 years old or to have a full head of hair, it would not be kind to indulge those delusions either. And if I were to repeatedly claim those things about myself and harass those who did not agree, it would also be annoying. There is nothing edgy or cynical about stating these facts.
