Slightly surprised on such a lovely day to only see 3 butterflies in my @savebutterflies #BigButterflyCount just now. But then on the way back to the car after my count I saw another 19. Obviously just hiding while I was actually counting.

@MOTHIDUK I appreciate this is not a great photo, but is it possible to ID? I think Eudonia mercurella, but it's quite light-coloured and a bit worn, and there are plenty of similar species. Found in my East Devon garden on Saturday, flying during the day.

@dr_ianjackson I obviously get your point but I think this is a very odd analogy. Getting part way to where I want to be politically is less than ideal but better than nothing. But transport is not like that. A bus that doesn't get me to where I need to go is as much use as no bus at all.

@WillTatton @SurreyRS As well as giving you more time and better visibility of the hazard when you encounter an idiot who doesn't look, part of the purpose of defensive positioning is to be more visible to those who DO look. That's basic safety advice for any road user, not just cyclists.

Cyclists improve your visibility on the road. Watch our series of animations illustrating common car/bike collision scenarios and how to avoid them. #1 DRIVE OUT #HabitsForLife

@djmikewheeler @SurreyRS Encouraging defensive positioning is not victim blaming. A cyclist is more visible when taking primary position. That's why primary position exists.

This is the Covid Memorial wall in London. It takes a full 10 minutes to walk its length. 197,635 Covid deaths to date - and counting. Boris Johnson’s unforgivable legacy.

@GaztenRobpo @TinkerCunt_ @NewSiddy @doctor_oxford @Stillicho82 You're still confusing the methodology for getting a rapid first approximation (a methodology which evolved over time exactly as one world expect) with actual cause of death records, which are a completely different thing that never conflated "died with" and "died of".

@JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine That truck should not be driving on this road, but the cyclist must let the truck pass first because the truck cannot move back. But I just want to know how the film turned out in the end.

@JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine Both are quite arrogant. Why is the lorry driver taking a huge lorry down such a tight lane?

@1901gennelm @JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine That's not just Scotland. On single track roads anywhere you're supposed to use passing places to let people overtake - they're not just for traffic coming the *other* way to pass you. Scotland is the only place I've seen road signs explaining this though.

@JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine The residents on the Scottish Islands get well pissed off with this attitude, on single Track roads in Scotland all road users are meant to pull into passing places to let Cars overtake, apparently some Holidaying Cyclists don’t pull in because they have this attitude 🤬

@Jontafkasi @JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine Ah, but the lorry driver is blocking the entire road while the cyclist is not blocking the entire road. Driver has clearly decided it's everyone else's problem that she has decided to drive an unsuitable vehicle on that road.

@PompeyCyclist @Jontafkasi @JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine That's a perverse interpretation. It's a shared problem with an obvious solution they could cooperate on. But that requires both parties to bring an appropriate attitude to their use of the road, which clearly hasn't happened here.

@bsd_junkie @JQPubicPTIII @theJeremyVine Not really. "some people". Nothing constructive comes of pigeonholing people in categories like "cyclist" or "lorry driver" or "motorist" or "pedestrian". We are all just people trying to get somewhere. Sometimes, some people can be a right twat when using the road.

Maybe a better question would be “Why are some cyclists so obnoxious?”
