Follow-up: I’m curious how newsrooms distinguish this from other public statements reporters have been warned against in recent years including statements opposing attacks on the First Amendment, on minority groups, or on people exercising other constitutionally protected rights.

Back on this site very briefly to ask an honest question of any newsroom leaders that I know here: Would you punish a journalist in your org for saying, publicly, that federal agents should not kill American citizens peacefully exercising their 1A rights?

In an era of 1% phone response rates & opt-in Internet panels, we really don't need voters lying to polls to explain inaccuracy. Those who don't want to say who they are supporting just don't respond to polls at all.

Instead of interviewing randos in a diner, how about you do more stories preparing your audience for what to expect on election night and the following days when it comes to vote counts and certification. That would actually be helpful and informative.
