Members of the GOP Doctors Caucus met with @SecKennedy this week to discuss the challenges threatening American healthcare. We pressed on prior authorization reform, which forces physicians to spend more time fighting insurance companies than caring for patients. We discussed the importance of increasing focus on patients and providers in rural and underserved areas. Finally, we raised serious concerns about insurance company consolidation that is limiting competition, driving up costs, and leaving patients with fewer choices. We look forward to continuing to work with the Secretary to advance legislation that puts patients back in the center of our healthcare system.

We applaud the new framework announced by the FDA to incentivize customized treatments for patients with rare diseases. Unique therapies give hope to those in need and development of life-changing cures should not be hindered by unnecessary bureaucracy. Thank you to @WhiteHouse @HHSGov, and @US_FDA for your hard work on this issue. wsj.com/opinion/fda-ho…

The GOP Doctors Caucus met with Joel White, President of the Council for Affordable Health Coverage, to discuss the growing crisis of rising health care costs facing Americans.   The Council for Affordable Health Coverage advocates to reduce health care costs by increasing competition, encouraging informed consumers, and expanding choices for patients. It emphasizes greater price transparency and affordability in an increasingly consolidated health care market.   “There was no better time to hear from the Council for Affordable Health Coverage as Congress confronts our broken health care system,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D., and Joyce, M.D. “Joel White and the Council plays a critical role in advocating for American patients at a time of widespread frustration with a monopolized system that is crushing patients. We thank them for their dedication to repairing a severely damaged system by empowering doctors, restoring competitive markets, and standing up for all American patients.”

The GOP Doctors Caucus hosted Director Joni L. Rutter, Ph.D., of the NIH’s National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, to discuss the center’s ongoing work to improve the real-world application of innovative health solutions.   The National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences is spearheading drug repurposing using AI to significantly cut down on delivery times of new treatments, particularly in the rare disease space. By improving treatment options and modalities, the cost of care can be reduced, providing dignity to patients and significantly boosting access to care.   “We applaud and are grateful for the incredible work the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences undertakes to improve American medicine,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “Translational sciences take laboratory, clinical and community successes and turn them into tangible solutions for patients across the country. The integration of artificial intelligence is the preeminent challenge of the next frontier in healthcare. Appropriately augmenting research in patient care with it is as important as the excitement of its seemingly boundless potential.”

Today, the GOP Doctors Caucus met with SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler to discuss the importance of small, independent practices in our healthcare ecosystem.  “From onerous red tape and overregulation to an environment dominated by large insurance companies that disincentivizes independent providers, young physicians are facing enormous challenges as they try to start their own practice,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “Greater competition and opportunity for physicians entering the workforce will drive down costs, improve access to high-quality care for patients, and preserve independent medicine as a viable alternative option to consolidated care. We look forward to continuing this important conversation.”

The GOP Doctors Caucus hosted the Council on Radionuclides and Radiopharmaceuticals to discuss domestic production, international supply chains and cost and patient access challenges. Nuclear medicine is a unique specialty that uses limited quantities of radioactive substances to diagnose and treat diseases. While MRIs and X-rays can only image the structure of soft tissues, such as organs, intestines and blood vessels, nuclear imaging evaluates function. This method is critical for deeper evaluation and detecting diseases earlier through assessment at the cellular and molecular level.
“The GOP Doctors Caucus is committed to advancing health innovation in the United States,” said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “Nuclear medicine is a powerful diagnostic tool that has revolutionized disease detection and treatment outcomes. We appreciate the contributions of America‘s radionuclide and radiopharmaceutical industry to improve patient care and look forward to supporting its continued growth here at home and globally.”

Today, the GOP Doctors Caucus hosted Food and Drug Administration Commissioner @DrMakaryFDA , M.D., to discuss the Trump Administration‘s agenda to improve America‘s health and the safety of food, drug, and tobacco products. The FDA is working aggressively to change the slow bureaucratic processes that have stalled cures coming to market, restore American drug manufacturing, and address unmet public health needs. Additionally, the agency is enhancing tobacco, nicotine, and vape product safety, and eliminating illicit drug networks, including unregulated, opioid-like compounds available in smoke shops. “The GOP Doctors Caucus is committed to improving the health of all Americans, including children and veterans," said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “FDA Commissioner Makary is doing an excellent job working to lower drug costs, restore trust in the agency, improve drug approvals, strengthen supply chains, restrict access to harmful substances marketed towards young Americans, and enhance food quality oversight. We look forward to continuing to work closely with Dr. Makary to Make America Healthy Again.”

Today, the GOP Doctors Caucus hosted health care industry leaders in artificial intelligence (AI) to discuss digital innovation, regulatory oversight, and challenges of integration. AI is an exciting tool that has the potential to improve American medicine and refine patient care. Administrative augmentation, streamlined prior authorization processes, and diagnostic assistance are transformational developments around the corner. To best cultivate the potential of AI, private industry must partner with physicians, supported by attentive federal policy that enables growth while safeguarding patient access and care. “The GOP Doctors Caucus is excited by the immense potential of artificial intelligence in the field of medicine," said Co-Chairs Murphy, M.D. & Joyce, M.D. “The United States desperately needs downward pressure on rising costs and rising disparities in access to care, especially for those in rural and underserved communities. The blooming potential of digital innovation must be harnessed with care. We appreciate those driving progress, and look forward to the work ahead as we collaborate to tackle this daunting task. We must make sure we never lose the human touch of medicine."

Thanks for having me @GOPDoctors to discuss how @NIH is working to restore scientific integrity, revitalize biomedical innovation, and improve the health of all Americans through gold standard science.
GOP Doctors Caucus@GOPDoctors

Yesterday, the GOP Doctors' Caucus hosted @NIHDirector_Jay to discuss the agency’s priorities to improve the integrity of medical research and improve the health of America. Science has stagnated, life expectancy in the United States is lagging, and American leadership in health innovation is at an inflection point. The National Institutes of Health play a vital role in addressing these issues as the gold standard of medical research. President Trump and Republicans are committed to improving the integrity of medicine and the success of our nation’s premier health institutions. “We deeply appreciate the leadership of Director Jay Bhattacharya at the National Institutes of Health and his willingness to share his vision for the agency with the Doctors’ Caucus,” said Co-Chairs Greg Murphy, M.D. & John Joyce, M.D. “America has long been the global leader in medical research, developing life-saving therapies and solutions to address the complex health challenges the world faces. Science must continue to evolve to push the boundaries of innovation and discovery. Our dedicated researchers must be empowered, not held back by bureaucracy nor politics. We support Dr. Bhattacharya's efforts to increase collaboration across government to ensure the United States is driving progress in the new frontiers of medical science.”

"The cancer patients with prior authorization requirements were more likely to have a sudden interruption in access to their oral chemotherapy medication, the researchers found. They faced, on average, a nearly 10-day delay." American patients cannot afford for insurance companies to play doctor or play with their lives. As our nation becomes sicker despite spending more on health care than ever before, it's time insurers put patients back at the center of their decision-making, not corporate greed. It is time for insurers to “pay their fair share.” Prior authorization is a hindrance for American patients throughout the country, and the @GOPDoctors’ Caucus stands ready to work with @SecKennedy and @DrOzCMS to rein in these profit-hungry insurance companies. Patients should always come first in American health care. nytimes.com/2025/07/18/hea…

When Medicare Advantage insurers use fraudulent risk assessment upcoding strategies, they are seeking to maximize profits over patient care. In doing so, they are not only draining vital resources from the Medicare program, but are also forcing the doctors who care for those patients out of business. Their egregious abuses are harming patients and those who care for them. The @GOPDoctors' Caucus fully supports efforts by the @TheJusticeDept to investigate this deceitful practice to ensure the health care of American patients is always put before the profits of insurers. wsj.com/business/unite…

Thank you for hosting me—we have a lot of work to accomplish!
GOP Doctors Caucus@GOPDoctors

This week, the GOP Doctors' Caucus hosted @CMSGov Administrator @DrOzCMS to discuss the Trump administration's healthcare reform efforts and commitment to serving vulnerable Americans. "The GOP Doctors' Caucus is encouraged by Administrator Oz's work to increase access to care for American patients—including the recent prior authorization reform announcement by Secretary Kennedy and himself—as well as to strengthen benefits for those who need and deserve them," said Co-Chairs John Joyce, M.D., and Greg Murphy, M.D. "The quality of care that patients receive has plummeted, and it will take real leadership, like that of Dr. Oz, to reorient our health care system to be patient-focused and not profit-focused. As physician legislators, we understand the critical need to work hand in glove with the Trump Administration to ensure the American people receive the highest quality of care, and we remain committed to effecting real change to improve the health of the public."
