Wow. Rubio, you’re completely full of it. The Founding Fathers DID NOT believe America was a “Christian nation”. Quite the opposite, in fact. The Founding Fathers never made ANY official mention of the Christian “God” in the Constitution, national motto, etc. IN FACT the line “One nation, under God” in the Pledge of Allegiance wasn’t added until 1954, which is an interesting story in light of the BS Rubio just shared in relation the radical Right’s relentless efforts to shoehorn religion into US government. The Pledge was originally written in 1892 by socialist (yes, a socialist, lol) minister Francis Bellamy…and it didn’t mention God at all. In the original it was just “one nation, indivisible”. Here’s where things get weird. (I’ve included the evolution of the Pledge in the pics below). In 1954, the Knights of Columbus, a Catholic fraternal organization, led a campaign to add the “under God”, arguing that America needed to differentiate itself from the “godless Soviets”. While a shameless & obvious ploy to shoe-horn religion into the U.S. government, Eisenhower, who’d just been baptized himself, enthusiastically signed it into law. I’ve included his official statement in the pics below. As an another creepy religious side-note, 1954 is ALSO when the cadence of the Pledge of Allegiance was changed to that of the “Lords Prayer/Our Father”…yes, you read that right. Take a minute to say both out loud….Weird, huh? Diabolical is more like it, lol. Not finished yet, the Christian zealots in Congress then changed our national motto from “E Pluribus Unum” (Out of Many, One) to “In God We Trust” in 1956, which was officially added to US currency in 1957. Yep, prior to 1954, “God” was NOT an official part of U.S. government language. Period. All it took to change this was the right group of Christian zealots landing in Congress at the same time. Here we go again, lol 🤦‍♂️. The Founders? They’re likely rolling in their secular & Deist graves seeing the current onslaught of Christian nationalism and claims the U.S. is a “Christian Nation”. Jefferson literally wrote, “I contemplate with sovereign reverence that act of the whole American people which declared that their legislature should ‘make no law respecting an establishment of religion.’” But hey, why would today’s traitorous, anti-American MAGA pseudo-Christian white nationalists like Rubio, Vance, etc. let facts get in the way of their theocratic Christofascist rewrite of history?
