'The Jackdaw gas field was discovered over 20 years ago in 2005, approved in the summer of 2022 and was expected to be in production by 2025. However its development was delayed by the Finch Case ruling that new oil and gas developments must take Scope 3 emissions into consideration. Scope 3 emissions include all upstream and downstream emissions from a product. If the gas is imported as Liquefied Natural Gas (LNG) from the US or Qatar, Scope 3 emissions will be much higher, as LNG requires energy to be purified, frozen to -161°C, cryogenically stored, transported in specially designed ships, and regasified. The Scope 3 emissions of this process are many multiples of UK gas production; the only difference is that the LNG emissions will be attributed to the US or Qatar, rather than the UK.' @AvonandsomerRob Once the subsidies have disappeared, the economics of electric cars questionable. Most of the cost of the petrol is tax which is used to subsidise the EV’s.

The new BMW iX3 gives you almost 500 miles range and 0-60 in 6 seconds. We've now reached the age where electric cars have longer range than petrol. How long are you going to suffer £1.70 a litre, when an overnight charge, and 500 miles will cost you £7?

@AvonandsomerRob Those savings are temporary. When the tax subsidies and purchase grants are removed, they will be more expensive to run than petrol cars. When customers have no choice costs always rise.

The argument against electric vehicles has always been around range. Your average petrol car has a range of 400 miles. This Mercedes CLA AMG 250 EV can crack 500 miles on a 30 minute charge. It will also cost you less than £40 monthly in company car tax, compared to £500 or more for the fossil fuel versions. Company Car fleets have ditched petrol/diesel. When will private motorists follow suit?
