@DontPanic404 @MorosKostas Yes, the end result is suicide. But gun allow for an impulsive decision that a person might not have chsen on a different day. If there are truly walk in MAID clinics where people are being seen within minutes and not leaving, thanks for the heads-up.

@GRobinGauthier @MorosKostas The end result is the same, suicide. And you’re wrong, MAID is being granted on the same day. And how does MAID have a reverse button exactly? x.com/nottheirscript…
The Undercurrent@NotTheirScript

🚨 CANADA’S GOVERNMENT EUTHANASIA SYSTEM NOW KILLS PEOPLE THE SAME DAY THEY APPLY ➡️ Canada sold MAID as a compassionate last resort. Instead, it’s becoming a government-run system where death can be approved in hours, and critics say it risks turning suicide into a healthcare “service.” ➡️ Canada’s “Medical Assistance in Dying” (MAID) program now accounts for about 1 in every 20 deaths nationwide. ➡️ Investigations found patients approved and killed the SAME DAY they requested euthanasia in some cases. ➡️ In Ontario, dozens of people died the day they applied, and many more the next day after submitting paperwork. ➡️ Canada has recorded over 76,000 assisted suicide deaths since legalization in 2016, with the number rapidly rising each year. ➡️ Critics warn the system is becoming a fast-track bureaucratic process, where doctors, forms, and referrals make “hastening death” easier than solving the underlying suffering. ➡️ The law was expanded in 2021 to allow people whose death isn’t even foreseeable, meaning patients don’t have to be terminally ill. ➡️ Some high profile cases involve people with disabilities, chronic illness, or depression, raising concerns about pressure on vulnerable patients.

I used to lean slightly towards legalized euthanasia on libertarian grounds, and on empathy for people going through immense physical torture who deserve a painless way out if they want it, with the dignity of not having to take matters into their own hands. I still certainly feel for those people. But what I have seen in Canada has made me change my mind about it. If you legalize it, the government will abuse it and encourage people far short of terminal to kill themselves. Particularly in countries with socialized medicine where the government is literally incentivized to "cut costs."
Matt Walsh@MattWalshBlog

All of the arguments for euthanasia fail. Even if I agreed that people have some kind of moral right to kill themselves (which I don’t), euthanasia wouldn’t be needed to exercise that “right.” You can already kill yourself. The idea that people need some kind of state sponsored system just to commit suicide is totally incoherent, even on its own terms. And those term are totally deranged because in truth, again, there is no moral right to suicide. But that’s almost a separate question, or at least a question further downstream. When it comes to euthanasia, the first and most immediate question is not whether people have the right to kill themselves, but whether the STATE and the MEDICAL INDUSTRY have the right to kill people. Should doctors be in the business of deliberately killing human beings? Should we have a bureaucracy for suicide? These are the real questions. And even if you (wrongly) think that humans have a moral right to murder themselves, you should still be able to see why doctors and bureaucrats ought to have no role in it.

@DontPanic404 @MorosKostas The difference is that a person cannot request and follow through with MAID impulsively. A bullet does not have a timer or a reverse button.

@MorosKostas The same people who support assisted suicide will scream about “gun deaths” which are mostly suicides. It’s very ironic.

There's a phenomenon I actually see extremely commonly when literature is used to teach history to middle school and high school students. Let's call it "pajamafication."

Racial inequality research starts from the position of "minority deficits" vis-a-vis people racialized as white. Scholars then proceed to examine the attribute(s) that the "minorities" lack as an explanation to account for racial inequality. This logic is flawed!

@mrsccbburton @meenaharris @mmmorris2 So......how are they any different from the rest of us who have had no power for 3 days? Just because they are in jail and we arent makes no difference. We are ALL going through it, they arent no more important than everyone one else.

My biggest fear is sociology paying more attention to identity (race, gender, class) and not the structures (white supremacy, patriarchy, capitalism) that make identities salient in the first place.
