Of the 105 countries ranked by the "Chess Gender Equality" rankings, Denmark🇩🇰 is rock bottom, with Iceland🇮🇸 and Sweden🇸🇪 just above. It seems that in countries where women have actual gender equality, they choose not to play chess. The key question is "why?"

@julesgambit Yes, they have. In this aspect chess is close to physical sports. There exist other intellectual games (e.g. Jeopardy and similar), where biological differences do not impact results.

Isn’t Fide’s decision to ban trans people from all women’s chess events because they have an unfair advantage, just another way of saying men have a biological advantage over women in chess?

@PHChess There are 10 Russian players in top-50 and 18 Russians in top-100 FIDE list. They do not receive money as national team members (it does not play). Many of them do not even live in Russia. Do you wish to ban these 10 (or 18) players individually from all chess competitions?

@GStormBringers The aim is the "top", the prestige, those representing Russia on the international stage. We could say world top 50, top 100. Officials, both as events and in FIDE, obviously starting with the President. It is not aimed at amateurs.

@GStormBringers I think 99.9 % is a bit too high a number :-) But the debate is exactly about national team members. That what sanctions should be aimed at, as they create the prestige the Kremlin seeks and pays for.

@PHChess They sponsor the Federation officials and staff and the national teams, and they organize tournaments for Karjakin and a handful of his opponents. 99,9% of Russian titled chess players earn money by private coaching or have a job outside chess.

@GStormBringers State-owned Gazprom and Aeroflot is listed on their webpage as sponsors. As well Oligarchs with close ties to the Kremlin via Phosagro and the Timchenko-foundation.
