I have projects like that too. Ones that I personally love regardless of their success, notoriety, time, etc. That said, I leaned hard on external validation early on. I used to have this thing where I'd know the work was good if I was confident enough to share it with people I looked up to (it wasn't always good). I would sometimes think of you for this exercise!

You're a big inspiration to this day Geoff! Yes that was exactly the point I was trying to make. The 10% I am proud of is purely based on my own judgement, if it holds up today or not doesn't matter in that context. It may or may not be the case, but is irrelevant for my own feeling of pride. I do of course also enjoy work that still holds up, but its not a criteria for my personal pride. It's similar to my writing, some of the essays I personally enjoyed the most were read the least, but they're still the ones I'm most proud of.

I've been designing for over two decades now. About 80% of the work I've done I'm not particularly proud of. Then there's 10% I feel okay about, and 10% I am in fact proud of. The pride I occasionally feel isn't necessarily linked to a particular achievement or a big brand name, but rather how I look and judge my own work after I look at it again years later. This is the part that's hard to explain to people outside of Design. The reason I still love this is because I get up every morning and I am still not satisfied with my work. I know I can do better, and everyday I got to try again and again (: Curious how I will feel about it in another two decades. I'll let you know.

@benjitaylor Idea: If text is selected and the clipboard contains a valid URL, paste should automatically apply the link to the selection. Slack does this and it's about the only thing I love about it.

I completely understand. You might not know the costs of running something like this (they are in the thousands of dollars every month). I turned to ads so I could keep the games up.

I've been lucky enough to work on these problems with @davidmarcus for nearly a decade. The guy is relentless. I've seen the highs and lows, but this really feels like a moment.

11 years ago, I was running @messenger at @Meta, acquired wit.ai, and tried to build an AI-augmented assistant called M alongside what was then FAIR (Facebook AI Research). At the time LLMs weren’t a thing, human-in-the-loop supervised learning couldn’t scale. Demand was insane, though. People loved it. In the last few weeks, I brought M back for myself with @openclaw and it’s magical. Today’s random example below. More about this later this week…
