Fact #16: An estimated 80% of people displaced by climate change are women, heightening their risk of sexual violence and other forms of violence (@UNHumanRights).

Fact #15: In 2022, at least 41 transgender and gender non-conforming people were killed in the United States. 83% were people of color. 54% were Black trans women. In 2021, 59 fatalities were reported, a record high (@HRC).

Fact #14: At least 162 countries have laws on domestic violence, and 147 countries have laws on sexual harassment in the workplace. However, laws are not always implemented, enforced, or in compliance with international standards (@UN_Women).

The Student Consortium on WPS stands against all forms of GBV and calls for its immediate end. As #16DaysofActivism comes to a close, the Consortium wants to amplify the work of @StateGWI, @UN_Women, and many other organizations that work to build a future free from GBV.

Fact #13: 73% of women journalists have experienced violence online, according to a survey. In connection with the online violence they experienced, 20% reported being attacked or abused offline (@UN_Women).

Fact #12: Indigenous women are particularly exposed to serious forms of gender-based violence, including forced sterilization, trafficking and sexual violence in contexts of displacement or migration, harmful traditional practices, and GBV in conflict (@UNHumanRights).

Fact #11: Less than 40% of women who experience violence seek any kind of help (@UN_Women).

Fact #10: Current or former husbands or intimate partners are the majority of perpetrators of violence against women (@UN_Women).

Fact #9: 30% of women globally have experienced intimate partner violence or non-partner sexual violence. That equates to 736 million women (@WorldBank ).

Fact #8: Adolescent girls are more at risk of intimate partner violence than adult women. Young women ages 15 to 19 are most affected (@WorldBank).

Fact #7: 245 million women ages 15+ have experienced intimate partner violence in the last 12 months (@WorldBank).

Fact #6: In 2020, for every 10 detected victims of human trafficking worldwide, nearly 4 were adult women and nearly 2 were girls (@UN_Women).

Fact #5: Violence against women was recognized as a violation of human rights for the first time in 1992 (@WorldBank).

Fact #4: Intimate partner violence can be reduced by over 50% if women’s projects receive proper funding (@UN_Women).

Fact #3: 78% of countries have commitments in their budgets to implement legislation addressing violence against women (@UN_Women).

Fact #2: Only 25% of countries have mechanisms to track budget allocations for gender equality (@UN_Women).

Fact #1: Only 1% of gender-focused state aid is directed to women’s rights organizations (@UN_Women).
