Former Afghan president Ashraf Ghani was allegedly smuggled into Beirut by his two Lebanese brothers-in-law, Riad Saade and Fouad Saade. Security authorities in the UAE were reportedly caught off guard by the operation amid current regional events. According to these claims, Ghani’s escape was organized without the knowledge of UAE authorities. Beirut is said to be his final destination, where he hoped to regain a degree of personal freedom, including the ability to use social media and communicate more openly with his loyal ultranationalist Pashtun supporters.

Dr Ashraf Ghani statement - “The idea that colonial lines have separated our pains should also be abandoned” - is factually incorrect. Can Dr Ghani enlightened the readers when who separated which areas? Pakhtunkhwa — its land and people — was never part of Afghanistan as a state except for a few decades under the Durrani Empire (read: Durrani Empire) that too by force. When Ahmad Shah Abdali founded his empire, he attacked Peshawar in the same way he attacked Ghazni, Mashhad, Lahore, Multan, and Kashmi etc annexed to his empire. Before that, Kabul, Kandahar, Lahore, Kashmir and Peshawar remained provinces of the Indian subcontinent, ruled from Delhi for more than 200 years by a variety of Turkish, Uzbek, and Central Asian-origin kings and sultans. Long before the birth of modern Afghanistan, the Pashtun state was founded by Malik Ahmad Khan Yusufzai, which included the Mardan, Malakand, and parts of Hazara Division - the Yusufzai State. No doubt Peshawar remained part of the Durrani empire for a few decades, but so did was Mashhad, Multan, Lahore, and Kashmir etc. The British took over Pakhtunkhwa from the Sikh rulers. Under the Treaty of Gandamak, Afghan King Yaqub Ali Khan, in return for annual subsidies and control over internal affairs, ceded just the Khyber & Michni Passes; the valleys of Kurram and Pishin, the Sibi District, Harnai and Loralai areas. While under the Durand Agreement, Afghan Amir Abdur Rahman Khan (“The Iron Amir”) - the architect of modern Afghanistan - formally demarcated the border from Wakhan to the Persian frontier. Under this agreement, adjustments were made in Waziristan, Bajaur, and Chitral; creating the Wakhan Corridor as a buffer between the British & Russia by cedeing territories from Chitral & GB to the Afghan amir. Before the Durand Agreement, the British had already helped define Afghanistan’s borders with Iran and Central Asia as well.... Oh yes; Dr Ghani can work on the creation of a pure modern new Pashtun state...! Positive comments and corrections are encouraged...instead using abusive language.
