Underlying questions we wrestle with: 20s - Who Am I? 30s - How do I fit this all in? 40s - There must be something more than this? 50s - Can I hold on? 60s - Am I redundant? 70s+80s - Was it all worth it? (From Gordon Macdonald’s “A resilient life”)

Preaching 3 times today, twice this morning at Common Ground Constantia & tonight at Common Ground Durbanville, Cape Town. Great also to lead them in prayer for our friends in Ukraine & Russia.

“Blessed is the one whose transgression is forgiven, whose sin is *covered*.” —Ps 32:1 “I acknowledged my sin to you, and I did not *cover* my iniquity.” —Ps 32:5 The bad news: When we cover our sins, he doesn’t. The good news: When we don’t cover our sins, he does. Glorious!

Work out your salvation with nonchalance & casualness. Doesn’t sound right. “Work out your salvation with fear & trembling” Ph2:12. That’s it! But which is more evident? We don’t work FOR our salvation, but let’s work it out appropriately.

Abraham prayed: "O Lord God…" Jacob prayed: "O God…" Moses prayed: "O Lord…" Hannah prayed: "O Lord of hosts…" David prayed: "O Lord God…" Hezekiah prayed: "O Lord…" Jesus prayed: "Our Father…" Jesus eternally changes our relationship with God.

Don’t let sin depress you, but don’t let grace cause not to take your sin seriously.

Having received the mighty Holy Spirit, believers can say goodbye to the “spirit of slavery” Ro8:15, “spirit of the world” 1Cor2:12, “spirit of timidity”2Tim1:7. How wonderful to cry Abba Father & celebrate sonship!

Community is the context of discipleship, but it is not the content of discipleship. Way too many churches are confusing the two.

True Christian fellowship, openness, honesty, vulnerability are all necessary to bring you to maturity. We were never meant to do Christianity alone. Get close to other believers. Don’t simply attend the same building.

What’s missing from so much evangelical preaching today isn’t necessarily passion, intellect, insight, or inspiration but *affection for Jesus*

8 promises of God for this week: The Lord will: 1. Go before you (Dt 31:8). 2. Renew you (Is 40:31). 3. Fight for you (Ex 14:14). 4. Be with you (Josh 1:9). 5. Deliver you (Ps 34:17). 6. Counsel you (Ps 32:8). 7. Strengthen you (Is 41:10). 8. Guard you (Phil 4:7).

Absolutley struck to the heart today reading the list of the Apostles Jesus chose. We know almost nothing about most of them. Its possible to be chosen by Jesus, build redemtpive history, and be unknown to the world. Recognition in heaven breaks the need for recognition on earth.

“One generation believes the gospel. The next assumes the gospel. The next denies the gospel.” Haunting words by Don Carson, because I've seen it in families of faith with my own eyes.

“The Lord said to Abraham, ‘Why did Sarah laugh and say, “Shall I indeed bear a child, now that I am old?” Is anything too hard for the Lord?’” Genesis 18:13–14 By putting it in a question God calls Abraham, and us, to affirm it: Nothing is too hard for the Lord. Nothing!

When we've said all we can say of the abounding of sin in us-grace still more abounds in Jesus. We cannot be so evil as he is good.

Corporate worship is designed to hold before you a God who is perfectly just and at the same time abounding in grace, and because he is, he is your solid rock of hope in this life and the one to come.
