RE: Gonzalez. No, he's not. The initial report set unreasonable expectations. He was hurt ~5 weeks ago. If it's grade 2 strain, he'd be on the precipice of returning to the field. He's a CB. Hamstring injuries are incredibly delicate.

I’d think there has to be something else to this story. Peppers looked like a leader for the team throughout the spring and summer, and they’re thin at safety even with him.

Patriots are releasing veteran safety Jabrill Peppers, per source. Peppers still has $4.32 million guaranteed remaining on his contract for this season. Peppers has started 85 games, including 26 with New England, and has totaled over 500 tackles, seven interceptions, six forced fumbles, and seven fumble recoveries in the NFL.

@ezlazar No offense, but maybe we should have brought in defensive staff that better matched the players? Because it looks like they’re throwing away good players, who are being paid well, and promoting others strictly on scheme fit.

I get looking at the contracts handed out in the 2024 offseason negatively, but the defensive scheme change the #Patriots are undergoing is very significant. DL: less space-eating, more flying upfield (lighter body types) LB: speed/range, better in coverage S: More deep zone responsibilities This happens in the NFL where players are scheme fits for one staff, the staff changes and they’re no longer fits.

Is this joint practice the end of the world? Nope. Is it nothing? Probably not. Yes the Vikings are a playoff team with a QB everyone underrates but so were the Eagles when they came into Foxboro and dog-walked us last season. That told us more than we wanted to admit at the time. It’s on the coaches (who better be better than last year) and the players (who better be better than last year) to teach and learn. Let’s see how they react.
