@mattyglesias It isn’t. It’s all a mirage. FIFA will never fill stadiums at these prices. They can put out all the press releases they like about how many millions have applied — come June, they will be slashing these prices to fill gigantic stadiums. As it ever was.

@MiguelDelaney The demand is not there at these prices - and the cynical dynamic pricing model will have to reduce prices near match days to get these stadiums even 3/4 full. England fans will turn to the ESTC at that point and rightly say “WTF?!”

One of the mist curious responses to this story is people saying things like “it’s basic supply and demand” which I find utterly bizarre. Maybe it doesn’t need to be?

FIFA’s pricing for the tickets available to supporters of teams at the World Cup has been criticised by the leading European soccer fans’ group. @TheAthleticFC Funny, I remember paying more for that for a Nations League match at Wembley one year ago. It IS the World Cup. The globe’s biggest sporting event is going to charge a big price.

I fucking love football, I fucking love watching England abroad, and I’d fucking love to do a World Cup. But why anyone would pay these prices is honestly beyond me
