This is why the album flopped not just the song. The whole album flopped for these reasons and these reasons only. The songs on the album where not bad at all, a little underwhelming but not bad. Doja cat started sharing snippets of the songs back in April of last year like she always does but released the album all the way in September 26. That’s 5 months from when she started sharing the songs and we got jealous type on August 21st. Now Doja cat is a A-list celeb and she’s a big artist but she’s not Taylor or Beyoncé big where she can release music during the release of other big artist and still be #1. Cardi B’s Am I The Drama released September 19th and was her highly anticipated sophomore album. You don’t have to like Cardi but she is the second highest selling female rapper to date besides Nicki ofc. Also to mention Taylor swift (I hate her and a lot of people do) released her album a week after vie came out. Taylor is an artist known for chart blocking and constantly getting number ones despite releases that are actually better than the music that she has put out based off of this timeline. Doja Cat album was in the middle of two artists who are really big and one album that was a highly anticipated sophomore album. Why would you as an artist (Doja cat in speaking) start sharing snippet of your album songs back in April but then not only release the album in between two really big albums that we’re coming out but also release the album five months later from when you started sharing snippets. On top of all of that this album was clearly a summer album, but you released the album in fall. People were starting to go back to school semesters were starting for college. Students and people schedules are generally getting more packed and you thought that would be the perfect time to release your album. That’s genuinely why I think her album flopped. It’s her least selling album to date even amala has more sales (pure and streams)
