Ticket price R250-R500 Pullman Hotel R5000 (for 2 nights, single) SA Cricket Travel Price R15720. So what should cost R5500 they are selling for R15720. And locals don't want the hotel. PLUS this isn't all profit for CSA because SA Cricket Travel is a JV with Tourvest.

So I contacted these losers at the new @ProteasMenCSA travel agency. If you want to attend a single day of the Newlands test, its going to cost you R15 720. If you want to attend all five days, be prepared to spend R44 640. They will NOT allow you to buy tickets alone.

Cricket South Africa, putting aside the Newlands debacle, get this. Bangladesh tour South Africa and the 2nd Test takes place between Monday and Friday, the 1st test takes place from a Sunday to a Thursday. Who is running this shitshow

It seems like certain sports journos were contacted to try and ‘make the case’ publicly for this absolute ticketing fiasco by @ProteasMenCSA. Don’t embarrass yourself, guys.

@FirdoseM What does monetising like this do in the long run. Lets me real about the appeal of test cricket for young kids - best way to build a love of the game in future generations, is attending in person. Completely shortsighted to grab money now and not think of long-term consequences

There's a lot of unhappiness about ticket sales for the #SAvENG New Year's Test. I did some digging around the numbers. The local allocation is tiiiiiiiiny as CSA look to monetise the match, which I suppose is fair play to them. espncricinfo.com/story/csa-sque…

Think it’s time to relook at your business model @ProteasMenCSA. Would love to know whose brainchild this was, and if anyone raised any objections.

CSA says it's investigating the communication collapse around the New Years test ticket sales at Newlands. The problem is not the communication. The problem is that there are no tickets for local fans. Let's focus on the right things.

@grantbn6 @BoknRoll Exactly, let’s be real about the appeal of test cricket on TV for a young kid - especially these days with all entertainment options. Those are future generations of fans who will support test cricket. Seeing a test match live grows love for the sport.

Don't forget there wasn't any test match cricket last summer as well. There were 7,8, 9 year-olds that may be introduced to cricket and didn't have heroes to watch & get captivated by the sport of Test cricket. Now this.

Cricket South Africa (CSA) has spoken out to acknowledge the frustration of local cricket fans who failed to get their hands on tickets for the New Year's Test match between the Proteas and England. sacricketmag.com/csa-responds-t…

@sacricketpod Maximising income from high value tests, and ensuring local fans get tickets and growing fan base. There should be clear quotas for locals or tickets for sale on the day.

@sacricketpod This is a bit short-sighted . What kid develops a love of test cricket from watching on TV? Esp in this day & age of entertainment on demand. Being able to go to the ground & watch test cricket is crucial to developing future fans. Surely there needs to be a balance between..

On the ticket issue itself it sucks & it definitely could have been handled better You don't advertise for a full week's in advance that tickets are going to go live only for a significant amount already being sold & Newlands actually being SOLD OUT But money talks... If you were at Newlands the last time 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿 were here you will remember it felt like we were apart of the Empire once again 😂 this will be no different. Less critical of the price hike in the tickets, you are paying to watch the World Test Champions!

@richardgibsonDM Furious England fans? Try being a Capetonian test cricket fan. We had NO home test cricket in 2025/26, and now tickets to our traditional test match have been snapped up - seemingly by tourists and not locals.

🔴✍️This past December CSA launched SA Cricket Travel, a travel company in partnership with Tourvest Destination Management. Now it makes sense why local fans couldn’t purchase tickets for the News Year’s Test at Newlands. sportsboom.co.za/cricket/exclus…

@sboshmafu Besides the selling of tickets, the schedule is also crazy. Why on earth would you have the CT test vs Aus start on a Tuesday?!?! Similarly for other tests across the country. They seem intent to make the death of test cricket a self-fulfilling prophecy.
