I want to be clear: American alcohol will only go back on shelves when the U.S. removes its tariffs.

Karl Popper Quotes
Karl Popper Quotes@QuotePopper·
Karl Popper on How We Gain Knowledge: ––Karl Popper: "People think, usually, that we acquire knowledge by opening our eyes and our ears and let the sensations stream into us, and they believe then that we record this like a camera. In my opinion, if we wish to get knowledge, we have to have a problem. It has to be knowledge of something. We have to find out something. We don't have to wait for information to stream into us, but we have to be inquisitive if we want to get knowledge. If we were passive, we would gain a confused mass of sensations or something like that, which we would hardly be able to understand and to convert into what one may call knowledge. Quite apart from that, perception is not really, in my opinion, the main source of our knowledge. The role of perception is to inform us about a momentary situation in our environment. But we couldn't really interpret our perceptions without knowing much more about our environment, namely, we know whether we are in a house or whether we are in a glacier. So we have two kinds of knowledge: this wider knowledge of a frame in which we orientate ourselves, and the momentary perception which gives us information about the situation at that particular moment. And it is only this situation in which we can use our perception. So we have theoretical knowledge and, if you like, the momentary practical challenge to our theoretical knowledge. And here comes perception in."

PM Carney on the Americans calling the alcohol ban an irritant: "You know what's an irritant? 50% tariffs on steel. 50% tariffs on aluminum. 25% tariffs on automobiles. All the tariffs on forest products. Those are more than irritants, those are violations of our trade deal."

@simon_schama Tragic. We must defend BBC and CBC and ABC. Worth noting that Canada’s PM Mark Carney restored some funding to CBC and was criticized by some conservatives. We need to support pubic broadcasting

Perhaps I am off on this but I genuinely believe that Canada is going to come out of this imbroglio with the USA better than the Americans. I think we hold a much better hand if we are resolved, patient and smart we will be better not worse off.

Canada expressed its support for the work of the UN Special Rapporteur on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples in UNGA's Third Committee. A more peaceful, prosperous, and sustainable world cannot be achieved without the meaningful participation of Indigenous Peoples.

I have understandably received many questions from abroad regarding the recent decision of the Flanders Festival Ghent to ban the Munich Philharmonic on the basis of the conductor’s nationality. This decision has rightfully provoked great consternation and has been characterized as antisemitic. To impose a professional ban on someone solely because of their origin is both reckless and irresponsible. Equally troubling is the unprecedented requirement that artists provide written statements of their political views. This runs directly counter to the very essence of artistic freedom. I deeply regret the festival’s decision, which has inflicted severe damage on the reputation of our country.

I wonder if Canadians would feel differently if they knew they what management was offering: a 38 per cent increase in total compensation over four years — a fact that was not mentioned in this piece and that I doubt was mentioned in the CUPE-commissioned poll on which it is based. This is fostered by teachers, and supported by the boards
FactsMatter@AllFactsNoHate

Ontario, CA 🇨🇦 A new federal survey paints a truly harrowing picture of antisemitism in Ontario schools. The report covers 16 months from October 2023 to January 2025, detailing 781 antisemitic incidents in Ontario K-12 schools. Nearly three-quarters of all incidents took place within just three school boards: Toronto District School Board, Ottawa-Carleton, and York Region. The data also shows that 61% of all reported antisemitic incidents occurred in metropolitan Toronto alone.   More than 40% of incidents involved Nazi salutes or statements like “Hitler should have finished the job.” Fewer than 60% referenced the Israel-Hamas war, proving this isn’t just political discourse, it’s raw Jew-hatred.  One in six incidents were teacher-initiated or involved school-sanctioned activities. Nearly half of all cases reported to schools were never investigated. In almost 9% of cases, schools denied the incident was antisemitic or pushed the victim to leave or attend virtually.  In 2025, students are hiding Jewish symbols to avoid being targeted. Families are moving across cities and school boards just to keep their children safe. And all of this is happening in Canada.   Over a quarter of these children reported feeling afraid to return to school. So, to all other Canadians, we ask you this: what if this was your children?  #FactsMatter #SharedValues #EndHate
