@PHChess I didn't mean to debate the overall rules here, simply in order to qualify you have to perform - Hikaru's (undisputable) skill alone should not be enough.

@GajuChess I agree. But I want performance over time(skill), not short term overperformance. 11 round Swiss is (way)too random. So is a World Cup. Great events, but not serious qualifiers.

No one dispute you have to qualify. Where we disagree is on how. IMO the current list of candidates is no good for chess. And the qualification method is to blame. We want a Candidates with the best players. Because sport should primarily reward skill.

Keymer Chennai Masters. Carlsen Norway Chess. Aronian St. Louis Rapid+Blitz. Its noteworthy that winners of Freestyle events also dominate the traditional chess tournaments. Freestyle seems to inspire and improve, rather than limit.

No to prostujemy :) Nawet jeśli los matematyków czy fizyków będzie rzeczywiście przypominać obecny los szachistów, jak hipotetyzowałem, to zwracam uwagę, że szachy przeżywają obecnie absolutny renesans, nigdy w historii nie cieszyły się taką popularnością, więc nie wiem, czy bym to nazywał „zmierzchem”. Wiem, że tak się lepiej klika, ale przez podkręcanie tytułów już nieraz musiałem odkłamywać zmyślone tezy o modelach językowych „mądrzejszych od ośmiolatków”, „teleportowaniu kwantowym ludzi” itp… ;) Wkraczamy w zupełnie inny świat, ale jaki on dokładnie, tego nikt nie wie. Ważnym sukcesem modelu GPT-5 w tegorocznej Międzynarodowej Olimpiadzie Matematycznej jest nie tylko to, że rozwiązał on poprawnie 5 z 6 zadań zdobywając złoty medal (na równi z Gemini 2.5), ale że w przypadku ostatniego, najtrudniejszego zadania 6, napisał, że nie wie jak je rozwiązać i nie halucynował od rzeczy. PS trójka programistów odpowiedzialnych za stworzenie modelu przyznała, że sami nie potrafiliby tych olimpijskich zadań rozwiązać. A w podręcznikach na próżno ich szukać, bo są to oryginalne problemy, których nie ma w literaturze :)

Thanks guys, both chesscom and lichess seem to be overwhelmed by the team competitions, chess24 did a great job here. Follow chess being usually my go-to app rarely remembers about the events any more😆

Now that the chess24 is gone is there any website/app where you can comfortably follow the events like German Bundesliga?

@EmilSutovsky @agadmator In 2023 Magnus had 4 classical games vs. Keymer, 3 against Pragg and 2 vs. Gukesh if I recall correctly?

The greatness of Champion includes prevailing over younger generation. Botvinnik holds the record - beating Tal, 25 years younger. Pity if Magnus skips the challenge from Alireza, Gukesh, Prag. Plus Fabi and Hikaru at their prime. That would have been the most exciting Candidates
