This is where they don't wont you to believe your own eyes. Minnesota wanted to investigate. The FBI took over. Then cut Minnesota out entirely. The state no longer has access to the evidence, the witnesses or the scene. The ICE agent who killed Renee Good, a 37-year-old U.S. citizen, in Minneapolis on January 7 will face no criminal charges. The DOJ ruled it justified self-defense. DHS said Good "weaponized her vehicle." Video analysis showed her car was turning away from the agent when he fired. A family autopsy found she was shot in the head. Minnesota wanted to investigate but the FBI took sole control within hours, cutting state investigators out of the evidence and scene. Vice President Vance said the agent had "absolute immunity." The shooting was the first homicide in Minneapolis in 2026 and the ninth time ICE agents opened fire on people since September 2025. The agent, Jonathan Ross, is an Iraq War veteran who was dragged by a car during a separate arrest six months earlier. Good's killing sparked national protests and triggered the ongoing DHS shutdown. No independent investigation was conducted.

We have gigantic creatures in the sea which can sing for hours and have arteries so big you can crawl through them. (whales) We have birds that fly 50,000 miles every year. From the antarctic to the arctic and back again. (arctic tern) We have living creatures which never get old and never die naturally. (jellyfish) We have animals which you can force through a sieve, and they can reassemble themselves. (sponges) We have an ancient line of animals which once had 30 or more successful species, and has gone extinct down to just one single representative, and that representative has conquered the entire world (us). We have horrors that look just like rocks and if you step on them your whole world becomes agonizing pain. (toadfish) We have animals who hide inside other animals, and when you eat that animal, they enter your intestines and live there. (tapeworms) We have plants which live on other plants and never touch the ground. There's a fruit tree that grows around another tree, and eventually kills and replaces it. (strangler fig) We have gliding lizards, marsupials, snakes, frogs, and rodents. What the heck do you need fairies for?
@yducknow

what a boring planet… no fairies, no elves, no mermaids, no dragons, no vampires, no ware wolves….. just bills, stress, gossip, and insufferable people

Let's talk about age verification/Digital ID and the coordinated effort of "conservative" influencers, think tanks ("Suits"), and lawmakers to vilify anyone who does not support universal age verification policies. The framing is the same with every policy: support/vote for this or you want children to see pornography / get exploited / be harmed. This is a binary false choice intentionally designed to curate support while preventing serious policy scrutiny. Fact: You can be skeptical of these policies - even oppose them - and still share the goal of protecting children. Let's go through what this bill actually does and see how it does not actually protect children. 🧵

Age verification will never address this. If you allow users to post content, stuff like this will get posted. That's just part of being a platform like this. You have to have things in place that help you curate the content posted. You will never solve this problem with
Laila Mickelwait@LailaMickelwait

Motherless is a free, user-generated p*rn website getting 60 million visits per month. The image below shows various content categories served up to visitors. The site consists of homemade sex videos and allows anonymous uploading with no verification of ID to ensure the videos don’t contain child victims, and no documentation of consent to prevent the uploading of r*pe, trafficking and other criminal nonconsensual content. The content is free but is heavily monetized with ads. Ads are all over the site and nearly every click redirects users to another p*rn site paying for traffic. CNN recently released an investigation that found unconscious, drugged r*pe videos with hundreds of thousands of views on the site. Sites like this are why mandatory third party, age/ID and documented consent verification policies, carrying major consequences for noncompliance, are necessary to prevent the distribution of criminal content. Ten minutes of filmed sexual crime on a site like this is ten minutes too long. Each view, each download and each screen-recording immortalizes the trauma of victims— all for the profit of those who run these exploitation machines. Motherless and sites like it should face major consequences, just like the P*rnhub crime scene and its sister sites are facing major consequences for the global distribution and monetization of child abuse, r*pe and trafficking.

Someone complained because we reposted a photo of someone who does porn, who gave us a donation at WonderCon, and sat on our Star Trek set. We didn't know, and quite frankly, we don't care. Our very first donor in 2012 was a pornstar. We wouldn't exist had it not been for her.

Stop emailing the leasing office when dealing with neglected maintenance and health hazards. You need to move the conversation from customer service to LEGAL liability. Apparently landlords will use their lawyers to “intimidate” you by sending threatening letters while you’re already displaced and in a medical crisis. They really thought I was gonna be scared 😭 Today I officially served a 30-page evidence vault to the Registered Agent in Austin, Corporate HQ in Phoenix, their Eviction Lawyer in Nashville, and the local San Antonio office. This packet documents every maintenance failure and email they’ve ignored, my ER records, and the doctor’s mandates they willfully overlooked while my home became unlivable. Each red folder was notarized, stamped as a Formal Legal Notice, and sent via Certified Mail with a Return Receipt. This creates a federal paper trail and a signature that strips away their "we didn't know" defense. Awwww, you had your lawyer send me a letter? 🥹 I sent her a packet. The 72-hour clock for a good faith response starts now.

Plex server supremacy (I can stream like it’s Netflix, but the quality is Blu-Ray because it’s a direct rip from a physical disc - and furthermore, nobody can remove anything from my server without my permission, so shows and movies never disappear when licensing changes)
Anish Moonka@anishmoonka

Your Netflix "4K" stream and a 4K disc put the same number of pixels on your screen. But the disc version of a two-hour movie is about 70 gigabytes. The stream is about 14. Same pixels, roughly five times less data filling them. You see it first in dark scenes. The stream doesn't have enough data to tell dark grey from black, so your TV just mashes it all into chunky blocks. Then you notice sunsets looking like a paint-by-numbers, with visible stripes where smooth color should be. Film grain is probably the biggest casualty. Directors add that slightly textured look on purpose to make movies feel cinematic. Streaming compression reads it as noise and wipes it. That's where the weirdly plastic, waxy look on a good OLED comes from. One comparison I can't stop thinking about. A regular 1080p Blu-ray (the older HD format, not even 4K) pushes about 40 megabits of data per second to fill 2 million pixels. A 4K stream pushes 15-25 to fill 8 million pixels. Four times the pixels. Less data. A plain HD disc from 2008 can look sharper than a brand new 4K stream. Sound is worse. Netflix sends "Dolby Atmos" audio at about 768 kilobits per second, compressed, with parts of the original permanently deleted. A disc sends TrueHD Atmos at up to 18,000, lossless, nothing removed. Up to 23x more sound data. If dialogue sounds flat when you're streaming, that's not your speakers. Netflix is getting better at this. As of late 2025, 30% of their streaming runs on a newer compression method called AV1, the same picture at a third less data. They also strip film grain out before compressing, then rebuild it on your TV during playback. Saves over a third on file size for most content, and up to two-thirds for really grainy movies. The rebuilt grain looks solid. The tradeoff won't go away, though. Netflix has to deliver a file that works over spotty rural Wi-Fi and gigabit fiber, adjusting quality frame by frame to whatever your connection can handle. A disc reads plastic. Same quality every time.

They're not double edged swords, they're just white supremacist systems of control for people who have nothing better to do than harass their neighbors. HOAs offer nothing positive
Alvin Lyran ₿Ξ🦁@AlvinLyran

@prmade313raised That’s exactly why people say HOAs are double-edged swords. They promise order and community standards, but the enforcement side can feel invasive and almost predatory. It’s wild that someone’s daily life can be monitored like that for trivial stuff.
