Le professeur André Bourgeot affirme que l’Azawad n’a jamais été un territoire touareg ni un État. À l’origine, le mot désigne simplement une zone de pâturage limitée au nord de Tombouctou, d’environ 350 km², et non les 800 000 km² revendiqués par certains groupes. Cette zone est très peu peuplée, composée de nomades sans villes ni villages permanents, avec une densité extrêmement faible. Le texte dénonce donc une “imposture” consistant à élargir artificiellement ce territoire et à le présenter comme une terre ancestrale, alors que le nord du Mali est en réalité ethniquement divers (Songhaï, Peuls, Arabes, Touaregs…). Enfin, le texte suggère que cette situation serait liée à des enjeux géopolitiques et économiques (ressources naturelles comme le lithium, l’uranium, etc.) et critique le silence des autorités et acteurs internationaux. Il appelle les Maliens à prendre leurs responsabilités, rester unis et sortir du déni.

On 8 January 2026, Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Sharif Zariya publicly appealed for prayers, stating clearly that powerful Fulani elites have openly expressed hostility toward him because of the historical truths he teaches about Hausa kings. After he refused to stop, they allegedly began plotting against him ranging from arrest to the seizure of his properties. Confidential intelligence obtained from a closed-door meeting reportedly confirmed this plot. 3. The Sheikh further revealed that he received credible information confirming that a secret meeting was held on that day, during which plans were discussed to frame him, orchestrate false allegations against him, manipulate government institutions, and unlawfully confiscate some of his properties through deception and malice. 4. These plots are allegedly being orchestrated by Fulani elites because the Sheikh teaches and openly presents the authentic history of Hausa kings how rebellious Fulani groups, operating under the banner of Shehu Usman dan Fodio’s so-called jihad, overthrew Hausa rulers, killed many of them, and deliberately rewrote history by falsely portraying them as pagan oppressors. This narrative is historically false. These Hausa rulers were builders of Hausa civilization and had practiced Islam for nearly a thousand years. 5. Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Sharif Zariya has also presented strong evidence and historical writings demonstrating the immense contributions of Hausa scholars, kings, and communities to: the spread of Islam, the development of Islamic scholarship, governance and state-building, and intellectual civilization in Hausaland, for more than 800 years before the arrival of Fulani jihadists. 6. What is deeply disturbing and alarming is that this persecution is occurring at a time when: A Fulani governor recently sought pardon and amnesty in court for over 70 Fulani bandits and their leaders under the guise of a so-called “peace process” in Katsina State (Sahara Reporters); Fulani clerics who openly defend Fulani bandits from the pulpit are rewarded with honors, recognition, and praise; Individuals who justify or whitewash terrorists such as Bello Turji enjoy protection and privilege. 7. Meanwhile, religious scholars who condemn terrorism, and scholars who speak the historical truth about the Hausa people, are the ones being threatened, intimidated, and persecuted. 8. Therefore, we ask people of conscience: 👉 What kind of society have we descended into, where a cleric who defends Fulani bandits enjoys the protection of a Fulani-dominated government ruling over Hausaland, while a cleric who praises the noble deeds of Hausa kings such as the Emir of Kano, Sultan Muhammadu Alwali II, who was killed by Fulani jihadists is the one facing threats to his life? 9. Let it be stated clearly: Under Section 33 of the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (as amended), the right to life is sacred and inviolable. Any conspiracy, threat, intimidation, unlawful arrest, or seizure of property against Sheikh Muhammad Auwal Sharif Zariya constitutes a criminal offense, a violation of the law, and a breach of the Constitution. 10. This public notice serves as: a direct warning to those secretly plotting harm, an official alert to Nigerian security agencies, #HausaActivist
