@staidindoors I rarely get even slightly excited for new movies but I'm looking forward to seeing this at the cinema. If it creates a lot of conversations about Homer, all to the good. It appears to be aiming to bring back Jason and the Argonauts-style movies - also good!

I think it’s ridiculous that Tom Holland says “dad” in an American accent in “The Odyssey.” It’s so inauthentic. He should obviously say “πατήρ”, in heavily accented and unsubtitled Ancient Greek, so that all those people complaining can really understand it.

@PaxtonRoadUpper @rickygervais Extras has some fine moments (esp the Ronnie Corbett episode), but The Office is essentially great all the way through. The main weakness of Extras is how the implausible stupidity of Maggie is lazily/cynically used to create plot situations.

@BBCNewsnight Of course, the rightwing media have played no part in stoking visceral hatred towards the PM. I'm not saying he's perfect - people have valid reasons for disliking him - but the vague response of "Ooh, I can't stand him" w/o reasons is likely manufactured by the media.

And that dichotomy is plainly false: there are plenty of creative academics and plenty of dumb creatives. But it's more complex.

PhDs are very specialised, ofc, but that doesn't undermine the achievement. Impossible to compare PhDs with mass culture - or maybe we should ask Brian May.
