Tottenham staying up, their spirits up, but this has to be a wake-up call. Micky van de Ven immense last few minutes, intercepting then clearing. Spurs fans superb, willing their players towards safety. Plenty right about Spurs: support, stadium, training ground and they now have a heavyweight head coach in Roberto De Zerbi who can organise and motivate, who has the respect of players and supporters.
But Spurs need an in-depth review this summer into the many issues and ensure they never get into such a predicament again. Have to improve recruitment, get in more leaders, sell Romero and appoint a more committed captain. Get in a more reliable finisher, communicate better with fans, examine the chronic injury list. But they’ve survived and can celebrate. And reflect. #TOTEVE

@henrywinter @FootyBoardroom I couldn’t agree more @henrywinter as much as it pains me to say it. Spot on 👍

Thomas Frank was out of his depth, Spurs’ board was right to act but he was not the only one responsible for the mess Spurs are in. Players also need to look at themselves #THFC @FootyBoardroom Spotify: open.spotify.com/episode/4SX2bN…

Gutsy win for Spurs in difficult conditions at Elland Road, weather, Leeds players/fans fired up. Lot of talk about who won the transfer window, Arsenal, Liverpool, Chelsea, Newcastle etc. Spurs also deserve a shout. Kudus in form, assisting (4), scoring. Xavi Simons so influential, inventive. Palhinha authority and organising (on loan). Kolo Muani back in training, Danso and Tel deals made permanent, appointment of the inspirational Thomas Frank and new contract for Romero 🙌 #THFC

@henrywinter I don’t think it’s a difficult fix Henry. Get Foden central and higher up the pitch and bring Gordon or Palmer to play off the left hand side and trust Rice to shield the back 4. But that said they need to play without fear and that’s down to the coach !

#DEN 1 #ENG 1 whistle report from Frankfurt Arena.
If England went on holiday, they would go on a retreat. Once again, England took the lead and once again they dropped deep. The Danish fans chorused "England, England, it's never coming home" and "You're sh*t and you know you are".
England collected a point, moved closer to the knockout stage but this was a flat, dispiriting display sparking disapproval from many fans at the final whistle. England's press was disjointed, forwards going to the defender in possession but not followed by midfielders, leaving a gap.
England's midfield was too open, and Alexander-Arnold’s time there may have come to an end; sadly, he failed to impose his undoubted talent. But he was not alone. England’s passing was poor; in one wretched passage of the first half, Bellingham, Foden and Stones all lost the ball.
Without Luke Shaw, they lacked balance on the left. Foden was a shadow of his vibrant Manchester City self. Bellingham was subdued. Saka had a couple of promising runs but England really didn’t show up. At least their fans did. Drinking and dreaming in equal measure, England fans again poured into another German city in their tens of thousands. Support was drawn from all over the country, from West Ham to West Brom, Portsmouth to Port Vale.
The drum and trumpet were soon heard, surely a call to arms, the England band now down to a two-piece. England lacked harmony, labouring to find a way through Denmark’s 5-4-1 until gifted a route after 18 minutes. Victor Kristiansen, dawdling in possession, was focused only on Saka to his left and had not sensed Walker motoring up on the outside. Walker, his pace unaffected by the passing of 34 years, tore in, pinching the ball, and crossing. The ball fell via Vestergaard and Christensen to Kane whose left foot swiftly despatched his 64th goal for his country past Schmeichel.
Infuriatingly, England sat off again. This negative response appears ingrained in them now: take the lead, take a back-seat. Serbia failed to punish them in Gelsenkirchen. Denmark did here in Frankfurt. Hjulmand collected possession 30 yards out and Saka and Rice failed to reach him in time. Hjulmand’s first touch teed the strike up, his second sent it across the diving Pickford and in off the post.
Southgate, to his credit although he had little choice, acted earlier than usual, nine minutes into the second half, sending on Gallagher for the disappointing Alexander-Arnold. Foden sprung to life, hitting a post. Gallagher brought urgency, too much at times and booked for catching Christensen.
Southgate twisted again after 69 minutes. Watkins, Bowen and Eze replaced Kane, Saka and Foden. That really should have released Bellingham to dominate the No 10 role. But England remained listless. It could have been worse, Guehi lost the ball to Bah, but recovered. England fans responded to the final whistle with a flurry of boos. England have work to do to win them over, let alone win the Euros. #ENGDEN #EURo2024
