As Generative AI becomes more sophisticated, Agentic AI can become correspondingly more autonomous and intelligent. While today's Agentic AI excels in narrow, specialized environments, the holy grail is artificial general intelligence (AGI) - agents with human-level cognition that can tackle any task flexibly across many domains. AGI would have transformative impacts across society and many open challenges must still be overcome to develop Agentic AI systems with such broad autonomy safely and ethically. In summary, Agentic AI aims to create systems that can independently perceive, decide, and act to accomplish their goals. Research in this area draws upon many AI techniques like Generative AI models, and could enable powerful applications, provided we can develop Agentic AI that is intelligent, robust, and aligned with human values. As AI capabilities grow more advanced, so too will the autonomy of these fascinating artificially intelligent systems.
