@FakeDaveGreen I did 😮 It's a beautiful rarity among games in that regard. I think I used to compare it to taming a wild horse 🙂

.@GaryPenn once memorably explained to me that Defender's game design - fairly uniquely - made the player TOO powerful: you can fly too fast into stuff (as in Spy Hunter), and accidentally shoot too many humanoids. If you know that, the first wave is easy? x.com/KevEdwardsRetr…
Kevin Edwards ( Retro Videogame development )@KevEdwardsRetro

Don't you hate it when someone who hasn't played Defender for about 40 years rocks up and completes the first wave with no effort. It must be muscle memory! I, on the other hand, got destroyed within seconds of moving. Thanks, Paul!

haunted by vague memories of these Williams/ Sega/ Midway/ Namco electromechanical coinops which presumably co-existed with (easier-to-maintain?) Pong/ Space Invaders-style "video games" into the early 1980s... pinrepair.com/arcade/

1/3 Fun fact (to be confirmed) The original publisher of GTA 1 was NOT able to release on PlayStation. SEGA got offered the rights for just publishing on PC. Clearly back then SEGA was not able to publish on PlayStation.

@itsJenSim I used to write loads of manuals, box copy, ads, etc back in the last century! Early '90s. Didn't usually get much scope to be creative :) The poster manual I did for Magic Pockets was fun (more than the game TBH).

@botherer I'd love to form a creative collective with folk like Nifflas and just churn out stuff and, well, that's it really. No real plan or money in it, just a regular infusion of goodness into the world ❤️

@vintagegamer77 @amigamagazine @DaveTheHutt66 I LOVED the WIP format. No one else doing anything like that at the time. We wanted to share an appreciation for how games were actually made with an emphasis on the craft rather than technology.

@alanjack Not in the best frame of mind ATM, but hopefully we can chat about how best to share 'Toy Design' experience next week.

@GaryPenn Yes! Still share that story with people from time to time. The true answer is that dev should be clustered around features based on individual skillsets. The question is how you work backward from that to figure out how to teach it. Could a student "incept" something like this?

Here's a question for #gamedev and #indiedev - one I have an answer for but want to hear other people's opinions... Who, in a dev team, is primarily responsible for a feature like this? And what skills/background do they need to do so?
Doku // Out of Action@DokuGamesLTD

#indiedev #gamedev #FPS #UnrealEngine A look at the dive/prone mechanic. You're able to dive and prone in any direction maintaining 360 degree aiming. Holding the dive will remain in prone, while tapping will automatically roll on land. Placehoder art/animation.

Been thinking a lot about Archer Maclean’s passing today, and how we always wait to say thanks, you were an inspiration, or you defined my childhood etc… So, gonna start a list of folk who did define my childhood, or who had a major influence on me and my career.

@mdf200 OMG we used to hang out in the 1980s. That is forever away. Last hugged him like I'd lose him at a retro event a decade or so ago. Archer was so enviably talented, fabulously confident and still a decent dude to boot.
