@LozzaFox All the things you listed are not only right, but just and defensible in our way of life.

@YukonStrong @DThespud15601 @elonmusk So a Canadian court would have to issue a court order to Switzerland and only then would Proton begin logging your VPN activity. It's a long and convoluted process. So they would need to be very suspicious of something you are doing online. That's the short of it.
English

@GaryWithNoBS @DThespud15601 @elonmusk yeah?
Explain for us all how you plan to bypass an ip block on a Canadian CSE router or even bypass simple ISP filtering while barred from VPN access.
English

Hey @elonmusk
We’re getting some pretty draconian surveillance laws here, Bill c-22
Any chance you could allow canadian Starlink customers to run their Internet connection through USA and bypass big brother ottawa?
English

@YukonStrong @DThespud15601 @elonmusk But C22 has nothing to do with VPN blocking. Its strictly to do with surveillance. If you use a VPN, the feds can't block it...but they can court order the VPN provider to hand over logs. Proton does not log, and would need a swiss court order.
English

@YukonStrong @DThespud15601 @elonmusk I've been in a technology a long time, my friend. That's not how it works.
English

@GaryWithNoBS @DThespud15601 @elonmusk no its simply a matter of banning IP blocks for providers who dont play ball
which Is why I suggested a land line outside of canada connected by satellite
English

@crowbrr @YukonStrong @elonmusk Look, Starlink is just another ISP. If you are using a VPN service like Proton or Mullvad, your data goes through that. So if you are on a VPN in another country, they can't obtain those logs because they don't even keep logs.
English

@YukonStrong @elonmusk I've looked into this, and as long as Starlink maintains an official (legal) presence in Canada they'll have to comply with all regulations. I too hope this will change though...
English

@YukonStrong @elonmusk Like what the fuck are you people doing that you’re worried about the government spying on you?
English

@MirekM13 @YukonStrong @sfcfdf @elonmusk Yup, here too. As I just posted, for them to even get logs from VPN access is ridiculous and complicated, because for a start, Proton doesn't even log VPN activity! And then it would have to go through Swiss courts to even make that happen.
English

@YukonStrong @sfcfdf @elonmusk As a Canadian, Proton VPN is excellent — Swiss privacy laws (outside Five Eyes), fast servers in Montreal/Toronto/Vancouver, great for Netflix & torrenting, plus unlimited free plan. Highly recommend for real security! 🇨🇦 #ProtonVPN
English

@YukonStrong @DThespud15601 @elonmusk They can try, but if they're located in another country, that's a long and convoluted process.
English

@DThespud15601 @elonmusk C-22 is going after vpn providers too
English

@YukonStrong @badendave @elonmusk I use Proton. It's a long and complex issue for them to go after Proton. For a start, they do NOT log any VPN activity. And in order to even do that, the Canadian government has to put a request in through Swiss courts and that in itself will probably get thrown out.
English

@badendave @elonmusk This won't work, c-22 goes after vpn providers too
To truly bypass warrantless surveillance orders the final hop from satellite to ground must be outside Canada

@Serenitee_Sam WTF?!? And she just came out of Starbucks... Hmmm...me thinks, one too many Expressos, lady! 😳
English

Watch this woman completely unravel before your eyes.
Imagine demanding a private audience while putting on a main-character performance in a public parking lot.
A masterclass in weaponized entitlement unfolded outside a local Starbucks when a woman in a pink sweater chose to escalate a completely lawful situation into a bizarre public spectacle. The individual went out of her way to confront a First Amendment auditor filming in public spaces, aggressively claiming her right to privacy while simultaneously creating the exact scene she claimed to despise.
The legal realities here are simple and absolute:
The Right to Record: Under the First Amendment, citizens have a firmly protected right to film and photograph in public areas, including sidewalks and public parking lots. There is no legal expectation of privacy when standing outdoors in plain view.
The Assault Threat: In a desperate bid to shut down the cameras, the woman physically aggressively approached the auditors, prompting responding law enforcement to explicitly warn her that touching them or their equipment constitutes criminal assault.
The "Citizen's Arrest" Delusion: Refusing to back down, she repeatedly demanded that officers initiate a citizen's arrest against the cameramen. The officers correctly and calmly explained that they cannot enforce the peace based on personal grievances, nor can they arrest people for exercising their constitutional rights.
The situation reached its peak of absurdity when she shifted from citing fabricated local ordinances to shouting threats about the FBI, declaring she would have everyone convicted of a crime, before finally storming off. Ultimately, law enforcement stood their ground, refusing to cater to her demands. The auditors continued their lawful recording, leaving the woman with nothing but the viral spotlight she so desperately—and ironically—cultivated for herself.
