Critics of striking medics argue that everyone is suffering at the moment. But doctors & nurses have had it worse. Recent inflation has taken the average UK worker’s real wages 2.5% below their 2009 level, but earnings are down 13% for nurses and 24% (!) for junior doctors.

@GasDoc_Cometh @tomscott I’m on Neuro ICU so it jumped into my head. I’m aware about pacemakers and pumps (@doismellburning has talked about this many times) but going for the anaesthetic machine is a new one. Can vent settings be changed? Could we deliver a hypoxic mixture?

@JonJHilton @tomscott VP shunts aren't usually the first ones I think of - pacemakers have had known issues for a long time (see Dick Cheney and the national security advice he received). Insulin pumps (or even BG monitors) too

The Labour Party has confirmed former north-east MP Bob Hughes has died, just days after his 90th birthday. He was first elected as MP for Aberdeen North in 1970, and was re-elected six times before stepping down in 1997. He was made a life peer as Baron Hughes of Woodside.
