That's the strongest retained list I've seen in many a year!!!! Add Walta to that as well. Surprised to see club in discussions with Ward over a further deal. Expected us to strengthen there if possible, which would be unlikely if he stays. A few retained players will be sold.

@JCJJMB Well, that was precisely my other thought. I wondered if they see him as an emergency centre back, otherwise I don't get the logic. Naughts was a superb footballer which is why he suited that CB role under Martin.

@Gate2Podcast Perhaps. If he's cheap enough he could be solid cover in a Naughton style, although KN could fill in a couple of slots if required.

@JCJJMB I half expected us to leave Ward and Key go in order to strengthen, so definitely surprised all three may still be here. Maybe keeping them around for an extra year for Parker to develop further?

@Gate2Podcast The emergence of Parker and the resurgence of Key, not to mention the return of Lissah makes RB one of our more solid positions after the wobbles of last season. I'm surprised that we've offered Ward a deal because we probably don't need him.

@HPJSCFC But that's true of a lot of players, and other players wouldn't have got the goals/assists that they did without Sterling on their team. Peaked ridiculously early, but he was electric for a good part of his career. Press have always seemed to enjoy bringing him down though.
