Today I read parts of "The Gospels in Islamic Context" (2025) and came across a chapter by Ali Ataie. He argues that the canonical gospels (and the Diatessaron) are authoritative, and partly outlines how they may be interpreted consistently with Islam. Interesting contribution.

@AEnjoyer447201 Why? Is the word “Bullshit” insulting? I mean I heard people saying this word casually without any intention to insult or provoke someone. I agree that he sounds harsh towards the people of innovation (bida) but what he’s said wasn’t wrong.

This thread argues that Muslim apologists are socially justified in their disdain for the field of Islamic origins. Several grievances are voiced against the field such as neglecting the broader implications of our work and its use by polemicists, claiming that specialists are

🧵Unpopular opinion: after more than two years of closely following and reading Western academic studies of Islam, l've come to a blunt conclusion: Muslim apologists are SOCIALLY justified in their disdain toward the field. (1/19)

*Correction* ISLAM Music: sin according to some branches; according to some it is not. Dancing: sin according to some branches; according to some it is not. Singing: sin according to some branches; according to some it is not. Owning a dog: not a sin; though most Muslims would suggest the dog be kept outside, which makes sense since houses are for humans. Woman without veil: minor sin, not a major sin. There's a difference between the two in Islam. Rape of anyone: sin. Killing anyone who isn't guilty of murder or tyranny: sin. You're Christian/Jewish/Buddhist: good for you. You're gay: sinful, but no death penalty. Though there are some reports of questionable authenticity which one might appeal to in order to make a case for the contrary. You're welcome.

I sometimes feel the urge to dive into conspiracy theories just to dismantle them. I'd do it hoping it might nudge believers toward critical thinking. Then I remember the people still deep in that world are usually the least open to changing their minds, so I don't bother.

@younes_benaddi @AEnjoyer447201 Paul never accuses them of preaching another gospel because the dispute was only about some issues regarding the law.
