@HansMahncke Precisely. Moreover, all they had to do is send a few frigates and mine sweepers to support their own supply lines. Ukraine is not a NATO issue either. And US spent 300 billion plus endless intel and weapons assistance.

It’s genuinely hard to understand why this is so difficult for people to grasp, other than sheer Trump derangement. Trump wasn’t invoking NATO’s legal obligations. He was testing whether European countries that the U.S. has protected for over 80 years would do the bare minimum to help secure global sea lanes, which American taxpayers have also been underwriting for decades at no cost to them. In this case, those sea lanes benefit Europe far more than the U.S. and Europe failed the test.

NATO members are obliged to support one another if attacked, not to join wars of choice. That stipulation was made at the demand of the US, which also insisted that the commitment be territorially limited. “The treaty does not cover the entire world,” said Dean Acheson. “It applies only to the North Atlantic area.” He made clear that this had been the key American condition. “We deliberately avoided any implication that we were undertaking a global military commitment.” The Senate, worried about being dragged into European colonial wars, had threatened to refuse ratification unless the limitations were explicit. As John Foster Dulles put it: “If it were made global in scope, it would not be acceptable to the United States.” Despite all this, the only time that NATO has gone to war was indeed out of area, at the request of the US after 9/11.

Think about what it is going to cost NATO to replace the American military.
Heck, Britain can't even get their puny navy out of their ports. Most of Europe's military is not operational.
Americans are fed up with carrying you militarily only to have you deride us.
If you knew anything about developing the military strength that you will need, you will see it will not be available for at least 5 years and then only if you can coordinate and standardize your efforts.

A bill passed the Senate last night 100-0 to fund TSA, the Coast Guard and FEMA. If Speaker Johnson called it for a vote it would pass easily.
But he won’t do that. Because Trump has ordered him to keep TSA shut down and keep the chaos.

BREAKING: Just five minutes before Trump's announcement to halt the attacks on Iran, massive trades reportedly hit the market. In one move, $1.5 billion in S&P 500 (ES) futures was bought while $192 million in oil (CL) futures was sold. These orders were 4–6x larger than anything else at the time. The trader seemingly made huge gains. Unusual.

This is absolutely insane:
At 7:04 AM ET today, President Trump said “the US and Iran have had productive discussions" to end the Iran War.
By 7:10 AM ET, the S&P 500 surged +240 points adding +$2 TRILLION in market cap.
27 minutes later, Iran completely denied all of President Trump's claims and said there has been "no contact" with the US.
By 8:00 AM ET. the S&P 500 had fallen -120 points erasing -$1 trillion in market cap.
That's a $3 TRILLION swing market cap in 56 minutes, just in the S&P 500.
What is happening here?

More dodgy and unreferenced stats. Seeing as i'm from Cheshire East, the idea that 67% of its school pupils speak English as an additional language seemed dubious in the extreme.
Turns out its total rot. The government says that the number is actually a shade over 10%.

@johnpmerrick I checked. The highest proportion of people not born in the UK in CE is in a few streets in central Crewe where the proportion is 63.3% . Obviously not all of them will be none first language English speakers.. Over Cheshire east as a whole the proportion of foreign born is 8%
