While on one end, having two starting OTs this early could be a vote of confidence for a young OL group knowing how important they will be in determining the success of the offense, especially with a new starter at QB, the bigger question I’m left with is, was it too early to make that decision and go as far as saying the rest of the competition “is not even close” ? It would be different if Lloyd was a returning starter or a guy with a bunch of experience but as he only played a very limited number of snaps in 2025, I can’t help but feel it’s just too soon to make that call, at least with such conviction publicly. Only 3 days into spring practice, still no full pads practice held yet, especially regarding a position that requires physicality more than anything. Also to mention his new position coach has only had 3 days of coaching him on the practice field. What does that indicate in regard to how much say Klemm had in that decision? I also wonder what message that sends to the other guys in the room that went into the spring looking to compete for a job at LT? Does this early decision affect the mentality or level of competition of certain guys now? Definitely don’t want to nitpick or be hypercritical here but ultimately feel that you could’ve given high praise to Lloyd, even indicated you expect him to heavily contribute and play a significant role, without fully handing him the starting title publicly so quickly without any true competition taking place just yet. Of course, there is plenty of time until the season and many things can change until then. Just feel like I have more questions than answers after hearing this. Regardless, rooting for the guys to take that next step up front in the trenches, as it’s arguably more important than the QB battle IMO.
