KAFNO: The Genocide of Maronite Christians in Lebanon (1915–1918) 💔 The genocides of Armenian, Assyrian, and Greek Christians under the Turkish Ottoman Empire are widely known, yet the suffering of Maronite Christians in Lebanon remains far less remembered… 😔 Kafno—meaning “hunger” in Syriac—was not just a word, but a devastating reality. Between 1915 and 1918, Mount Lebanon was struck by a catastrophic famine that many historians and descendants view as a genocide, as starvation, blockades, and harsh wartime policies imposed by the Turkish Ottoman authorities contributed directly to the widespread suffering and death of the population. 💔 Families were left without food, protection, or hope. Entire communities faced starvation, disease, and isolation. Many were driven into the mountains, where hunger became their final reality. 😔💔 It is estimated that around 200,000 people in Mount Lebanon died during this period, most not by direct violence but through prolonged starvation and suffering. 💔 With no other choice, thousands fled their homeland, seeking survival in North and South America. Among them were the ancestors of Carlos Slim Helú, whose family rebuilt their lives in Mexico. Generations later, he became one of the richest individuals in the world. 🌍 Kafno remains a story of loss, exile, and survival—a memory that, for many, represents a forgotten genocide that should not be overlooked. 💔😔 Read more: 1) kafno.org 2)en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Great_Fam… #Maronite #Kafno #Genocide #Lebanon #Christian #History #Syriac #Assyrian #MiddleEast #NeverForget 💔

International advocates describe the case of Said Abdelrazek as emblematic of the risks faced by religious converts in Egypt, where apostasy —leaving Islam for another faith — is not formally codified as a crime but is often prosecuted under broadly defined security charges such as Terrorism laws. #100faces #exmuslim #egypt
