Auckland would be a world class city in terms of lifestyle if you didn’t have to drive absolutely everywhere (typing this after 3 hours of driving to various place all day within and across the city). I much prefer living in cities with a Metro option.

This used to be a crisp brand in the UK Now, in NZ, it’s a pomegranate juice It shows how brand names can be quite different even across anglo countries

@mttjon I thought about it but couldn’t face 16 hours. I’m sticking with a charge in Singapore.

@mttjon End of year travel bans are still a thing? Stoping sales teams meeting customers is bonkers.

Heard on a train a short-time ago: "We've just had to hit the ground running in January as we had a travel ban in December. Send me the list and I'll escalate it for pricing and prioritisation." ... Corporate speak is so painful ... The conversations never change

📉 The point here is that the "slowest growth" headlines were driven by food sales. Non-food retail actually *declined* in December 2025. Ignoring Easter/Black Friday phasing effects, it was the worst decline for over a year. How does "cozzie livs" affect retail? Now you know 👇
Harvir Dhillon@HarvirDhillon

@the_brc @kpmguk 📉 Non-food retailers faced a distinct chill, with sales slipping 0.5%. Many shoppers clearly held their nerve, bypassing the pre-Christmas rush to wait for the Boxing Day clearance. Gifting items, in particular, underperformed expectations in a crowded market.

Hat tip to Klearly, Amsterdam-based restaurant payments vendor selling through partnerships with ISVs, which has raised an additional €12m. Klearly has a stellar line up backers including PayPal and the new money will help fund expansion to Italy. tech.eu/2026/01/13/kle…

Fintech Biz Weekly just dropped: Y Combinator & Coinbase invested in a Venezuelan sanctions evasion app linked to the Maduro regime, including, rumors say, the son of Nícolas Maduro: @kontigo_app The story is a LONG one. You know where to find it.

@anammostarac Does first class really exist on a 5-6 hour flight? It only works on a 12 hour flight

Luxury is done. The quality of almost everything has gone down. No one is getting what they pay for, not even in first class.
Peyman Milanfar@docmilanfar

Hey @united is this a joke? I just flew 5+ hours in First Class and this bowl of sadness is what you serve me for dinner. Between the 3D-printed mystery meat, the cafeteria cheese cubes, and the whole tomato I need a chainsaw to cut, this is genuinely unbelievable.

$EEFT Euronet acquires Crediabank Merchant Acquiring & (offsite?) ATM business Should be 24k POS terminals and 20k merchants (who can confirm William Blair Nopte?). Assume €50k TPV per merchant (bad estimate by me), that's $1B in TPV? Given Euronet gets the merchant acquiring, the ATM outsourcing and a 3Y partnership to 'develop payments and digital-wallet services', I would assume they paid a fair price of let's say €2k per merchant, so €40m? Any input is welcome!

@jszhang0912 @TomSmith839 The Greek banks were desperate for capital in the early 2020s, hence the sales. But the market is sound - strong cash to card momentum and lots of high margin foreign cards and DCC transactions in the tourist areas.

@TomSmith839 Any idea why these Greek banks are selling their acquiring businesses one after another? Why Greece specifically? (worried that there is something country specific that make these things lemons) $EEFT

@TomSmith839 €500 per merchant is a good rule of thumb for European bank or ISO portfolios but this deal includes plenty of other stuff, notably the ATMs which do a lot of high margin DCC in the tourist areas.
