@GregLehman @TaiwanOzPhysio Tension from the fibres anchoring the itb to the lfc in a layer of vasculaized fat. It compresses at 30 degrees knee flexion so that doesn’t look likely in runners. So I think it’s tension from lateral movement in extension

Classic misrepresentation of my argument. Notice how "understanding pathomechanics" (ie. compression) just lead to pretty standard (but good) load management interventions. You could have said lets change the tensile loads and done the same intervention 1/

The 'it doesn't really matter' approach is exactly why we see runners doing endless foam rolling and ITB stretches with poor outcomes. Understanding pathomechanics is fundamental to targeted intervention—that's literally what evidence-based practice is." Knowing it's compression helps us modify training loads—shorter stride length, avoiding camber/hills, and graduated return to flexion-heavy activities rather than just 'stretching the ITB' (which we know doesn't work anyway). @GregLehman @jake_tuura The strain is what is happening to the lenghtening fibre but shear is what is happening between the fibres. Presuming slightly different lengths and different orientations and close proximity (which it is). I think the injuries are from tensile shear during lengthening (strain)

Patellar Tendinopathy. Image 1: Stress shielding. The pathological “hole” gets compressed from dynamic movement. Image 2: Stress relaxation. The pathological “hole” gets linear stress as strong collagens weaken and crimp from a sustained hold. Images from study: pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/35358711/

@GregLehman @jake_tuura Shear is the physical term if one fibre is moving differentially against another fibre. If from rest fibres lengthen then it is tensile shear

@jake_tuura I'm not sure this paper proves stress shielding or stress relaxation. It confirms that rapid and short duration load (.33s) isn't a great stimulus - which we already knew from 2007. Maybe comparing 30s with 3s would have been better

@ACSMNews @stanherringmd wish i got there. i got a scholarship to seattle in 2020. The only man i knew to have three phones. one for cloinic, one for seattle seahawk players and one for seattle seahawk player managers. His approach - time and then intervention is a great message for elite sports medicine

@TraceyLeeHolmes @RealWorldBoxing Thank you @TraceyLeeHolmes this complex issue needs experts like you and an endocrinologist. And a fun fact if she were trans she would not have even qualified for the Olympic Games. As you know trans women have to reduce their T as a prerequisite to compete.

@TraceyLeeHolmes @RealWorldBoxing I have never seen a single study for boxing or any sport that shows XY DSD women have even a 1% advantage in any sport against XX women. XY women that are totally insensitive to T and XX women with high T are the women that are overrepresented in elite F sports.

@DrPeteMalliaras My guess is Step back applies more force in the longitudinal plane of the tendon. Impulse force of lengthening is greater than the force that tendon can match. So it fails. Tendon (and muscle) at risk with lengthening (not compression).

Why do Achilles tendons rupture during submaximal step-backs? 🤔 In my latest video, I break down cases like Jayson Tatum & Guy Sebastian—and the role of tendon fluid dynamics Plus, stay tuned for a series on post-rupture elongation youtube.com/watch?v=vGiNkR…

Lots of response around a recent shockwave paper. Lots using it to say SW dosent work. If that's your take, you're either awful at understanding research, or selling another agenda. The paper tells us THAT sw unit, at THAT power output, didn't help THAT diagnosis. Nothing more

#hottest100 by the what I’m listening to I’m glad we are at number 105 as numbers 106 to 110 have been rubbish. Bring back the 80s 90s 00s 10s and probably the 60s and 70s

@Seth0Neill @Sinead_Holden Might be simple physics in jumpers/runners. Equal force will be experienced at both ends of the tendon, or very close Young bone soft tibial tuberosity = O-S. older the larger surface area of the distal attachment (force indirect proportional to area) protects so prox end has PT

@TKoutsantonisMP Can’t help myself here. The labor government sold CSL for 300million it is now worth 140000million. Add in qantas, commonwealth bank and Telstra (bipartisan), electricity in VIC and QLD.

Ben Hood is refusing TV media requests to defend or explain his privatisation plans. He claims he didn’t say he wouldn’t rule out privatisation but he clearly did and here is the evidence.

@ActivateGlutes @EmeroleAnderson great video. Modern sprinting frontside mechanics, modern sprinting backside mechanics, modern sprinting great spikes. It is all so much fun. Wish they would just wipe the female records from the 80's drugs 100,200,400,longjump, etc.

@EmeroleAnderson That record has stood for all but ~9mo of my life. I thought it was a little bit of an indictment of Australian senior men's sprinting but I just learnt that 20.06 makes Norman the 140th fastest 200m runner ever. That his record fell to a 16y old is even more remarkable.

@jrojourno Dont watch spotlight but the cricket was done. You have very questionable ethics. Homophobia is a poor look in todays society @elonmusk is probably correct about your lot at the ABC. Unaccountable. Egotistical

@TraceyLeeHolmes it should be noted that it was Chinese security who undertook the investigation at the hotel to state it was contamination. On the basis TMZ found in waste. And the other hotel no other athletes tested +ve (there were only 3 athletes tested)

“As far as the Chinese agency is concerned, it is clear that certain rules of the World Anti-Doping Code have not been applied. This is regrettable, but in the end, it does not change the outcome of the cases and the acceptance of the contamination hypothesis,” Independent prosecutor, Eric Cottier of Switzerland, hands over his final report into #WADA’s #China #contamination #doping saga. @TraceyLeeHolmes Testing of Chinese swimmers ceased nov20. Training camp dec20. No testing. Same place as later +ve tests in jan21. Most likely rather than contamination is the athletes took TMZ dec21 perfect time for training block pre Olympics and then got caught with runoff low levels jan21.

@TraceyLeeHolmes Fascinating case. CHINADA tests +ve feb21. No provisional suspension. WADA notified no sanction june21. WADAjuly21 no appeal as contamination was plausible. All hidden. Coverup caught in Apr23. Cottier previously worked with WADA prosecutors is “independent” says cover up OK
