@GeorgePappas8 @Lady_Zamar @sadmethod Yes, black. And I'm not even trying to appropriate anything, like I said initially,I'm educating you, my precious son🫂Go do some actual reading on Ethiopians, infact go to Book 2 specifically in Herodotus' Histories and tell us which city is mentioned specifically as their city.
English

My 2 cents on the Lupita Nyong’o Odyssey debate:
I think Christopher Nolan set Lupita Nyong’o up by casting her as Helen of Troy. This was always going to create controversy because Helen is one of the most iconic figures in Greek mythology.
It’s similar to how many Black people would react if a white actor was cast to play Shaka Zulu or Nelson Mandela. People become protective over historical and cultural figures they strongly associate with their identity.
In my opinion race swapping in stories so tied to a specific culture can sometimes feel forced and ends up creating unnecessary backlash, division and even racism instead of focusing on the actual performance.

@LuthandoNg55089 @Lady_Zamar @sadmethod Andromeda ? Black? So you’re also confused about what Ethiopian meant back then. But you surely dug out all references to Africa in a desperate effort to appropriate another culture. Anyway, you re agressive which alone proves you’re wrong.
Bless your soul 🫶

@GeorgePappas8 @Lady_Zamar @sadmethod Andromeda is another. he Pygmies also. Strabo and others specifically mention Aethiopians,Sudan, Somalia etc. Attikos lit adopted a black son. Smh,you don't seem like someone with an IQ high enough to do thorough research on this subject.Typical tho though judging from your views
English

@LuthandoNg55089 @Lady_Zamar @sadmethod Ha, Mnemon. Always that one and only example. There is no other. And he was defeated by Achilles. Northern Africa was largely part of the ancient world. The regions of Africa that Herodotus or Pythagoras, or others, refer to were not populated by black people.
English

@GeorgePappas8 @Lady_Zamar @sadmethod That is just a downright lie. Yes the ancient Greeks were European but they revered Africans and their cultures, as seen in the writings of Herodotus and Pythagoras for example. Even the Iliad has an African, Memnon, whose might was equal to that of Achilles. You're clueless.
English

@Lady_Zamar @sadmethod Not the question. You are off topic. Just look at Ancient Greek statues, they represent their gods and beauty canons. None has African features.
English

the ancient world absolutely had, xenophobia, ethnic hierarchy, slavery, prejudice. but it did not function through modern black/white racial systems the same way post-colonial europe did.
also, greeks did interact with and write about africans often called “aethiopians”egyptians, nubians, persians, etc. they def weren’t isolated
English

@Lady_Zamar @sadmethod The ancient world was highly racist, not a chance Greeks would have associated themselves with black people, not even dark skinned, that includes mythology and real life.
English

a few things to consider…
1. beauty standards weren’t the same as now and each era has represented helen of troy as they desire since there is no description of her facial features besides that everyone was captivated by her beauty.
2. greek mythology focuses on effect and function. modern culture envisions all mythological creatures as caucasian which is completely inaccurate. there are so many creatures and none are of european decent.
3. she was from the bronze age which would make her more likely darker skinned not fair skinned
4. victorian europe made her white and hollywood made her blonde and both are inaccurate historically
5. her parents were greek gods and they weren’t depicted to have any white/european/caucasian features. her divinity is most likely what moved people and made her otherworldly. it’s a lot like casting a mermaid as white european when it’s literally a mythological creature in the form of half fish and half human, this would mean that mermaids can be any colour.
this picture is a closer depiction of how she could have looked according to archaeology and the possibilities presented by myth.
