Their sworn statements, he emphasized, were firsthand accounts, not hearsay. Read that again. There were 18 former Marine security personnel. The Ombudsman’s office interviewed only eight. And all eight were found to be credible. Not one. Not some. All eight. After months of ridicule… After countless attempts to destroy their names… After every effort to convince the Filipino people that these Marines could not be trusted… The official investigation reached a very different conclusion. Perhaps the real question was never whether the Marines were telling the truth. Perhaps the real question is why so much time, money, and effort were spent trying to convince the public that they weren’t. Who owes these Marines an apology? More importantly… Who will now be held accountable? As the old proverb reminds us: “Truth is like the sun. ‘UNACCEPTABLE AND DESERVES UNEQUIVOCAL CONDEMNATION’ Senator Robin Padilla released a statement on Friday, supporting the Department of Foreign Affairs (DFA) for condemning the “racist and demeaning” AI-generated video posted by China Daily. “Freedom of expression and political discourse must never become an excuse for racism, dehumanization, or attacks on the dignity of any people. Depicting Filipinos in such an offensive manner is unacceptable and deserves unequivocal condemnation,” the statement read. The said video featured a monkey wearing barong and salakot. An image of the Philippine flag was also spotted. “Such imagery and misinformation only serve to widen the distrust between the Philippines and China. The Philippines demands that the offensive material be taken down, calls for the immediate cessation of such irresponsible content, and urges China to uphold dignity, respect, and truth in public discourse,” the DFA said in their statement on Thursday.
