Big win for @EU_Competition against @Meta today in EU court.
EU had asked for loads of data as part of 2 antitrust probes. Meta complained the requests went too far & infringed right to privacy.
EU judges sided with @EU_Commission . There were sufficient safeguards.

@DuncanIlling @stokel @washingtonpost Yes, it was an ongoing breach. No decision was reached prior to the Directive being repealed. Therefore, by the time it reached CJEU, the applicable law was GDPR. In any event, this Decisions relates solely to post GDPR breach.

@stokel @washingtonpost This lacks key contexts of the ECJ 2020 invalidation for EU/US data transfer for all global businesses and the fact the legal framework of SCCs have been relied upon by all since. Meta have been singled out from a cast of thousands. Question is why?

The bizarre thing about this decision is that the largest ever #GDPR enforcement action is for something that is routinely happening every second of the day - transferring data to the US - and against an organisation that had gone out of its way to provide appropriate safeguards.
