@elonmusk Sad news to hear, they were the basic 🧬 that led to the electric car revolution. 👏 Tesla will do it again with the next generation of vehicles

@Toibin1 @Muinchille It is just now AI. Remember when Musk slashed the headcount at twitter, it kept running just fine. Seems like many of these companies are over staffed as their profits allow that luxury. They are now using the cover of AI to reduce staff levels.

The Irish tech sector is in big trouble. It is the objective of tech to shed thousands of jobs. AI is an enormous threat. It is not being taken seriously. It's like nuclear power in terms of potential effects. It needs to be regulated at a UN level. rte.ie/news/business/…

@adrianweckler Folks forget the Musk slashed the headcount at twitter/X and the app kept working just fine. Don’t know what X headcount is now compared to then, but it did illustrate that once built, there isn’t that requirement for headcount to keep a service running and adding small changes

Everything on an aircraft has a purpose. The two little strakes above the engine inlets on the Mirage 2000 are vortex generators. At high angles of attack, they generate strong conical vortices, stabilising and energising the airflow over the upper wing. Letting it turn harder.

@PLA_MilitaryUpd Never a fan of those extended rear control surfaces. From a control perspective, excellent, but extremely vulnerable to damage from a rear aspect hit.

#OTD On 17 May 1989, the 2S19 “Msta-S” was officially adopted into service. The 2S19 was accepted by Order of the USSR Ministry of Defence No. 0127 dated 17.05.1989. The creation of the 2S19 “Msta-S” in 1990 was honoured with the Lenin Prize and the State Prize of the USSR. The self-propelled howitzer was developed by the design bureau of the Ural Transport Machinery Plant in Sverdlovsk (Yekaterinburg). It was designed to replace the 2S3M self-propelled howitzer, with significantly improved key combat characteristics (firing range, rate of fire, mobility, etc.) on a new chassis that incorporated components from the T-72 tank (power pack) and the T-80 (running gear). Serial production was carried out at Uraltransmash from 1989 to 2002 and at the Sterlitamak Machine-Building Plant from 1988 to 1992; the latter facility was later destroyed (see t.me/btvt2019/9809).The howitzer saw no export demand, and in combat it has shown itself to be inferior to its foreign counterparts.

Parking payment at @ArnottsDublin is not working as advertised in store. Tried today to get the €9 for 3 hours parking, but the parking machine would not scan the receipt. Like others, had to pay full.

@mz_storymakers Is that done for every performance? What would be the contingency if say the wheels on the set jammed or the camera fell over? First time I’ve seen a performance from the crowd perspective 👍

What exactly does Derek Mooney do at RTÉ? It’s understood that Mooney is paid one salary for a "dual role", his on-air work and his producing, but he has a single job title. RTÉ has said that this does not constitute being paid for two distinct jobs. jrnl.ie/7041218

@nicholadrummond @ModernNavy @Telegraph Will the OEM support it for 30 years, or does it eventually fall to specialists parts providers as they age? Also the transition to EV’s probably makes long term support of diesel not attractive to them

Not made in the UK. Supply chain is massive. Survivability of Ineos in such a challenging market is not assured. The Grenadier is a nice vehicle, but niche vehicle. Some would say it's a billionaire's vanity project rather than a serious military proposition. LMV needs to be a simple, inexpensive utilitarian vehicle. This means it needs to come from a major OEM able to support it easily, affordably, and for the next 20-30 years.

It will take some time to tease out the data dump from utterly bust basketcase RTE this evening about its Top 10 stars (and the conflation/confusion over presenters/producers versus management). But why is Patrick Kielty, famously on €250,000 a year, paid €266,323 in 2025. And why were both freelancers Ray Darcy and Claire Byrne paid ~€50k apiece after they quit and walked out? David McCullagh pay in 2025 looks wrong (even accounting for his promotion from Nov 2025). Why is Daithi O'Sé both a contractor and employee in 2025. This may take some time to process, but we'll be returning to it over the weekend.

BMW have just announced that the next step for their famous inline-6 engines, is turbulent jet prechamber ignition. We will see how thankful they are when I commented that this was in fact a German invention, by F. Penzig of I.G. Farben (chief engineer of the Ludwigshalfen works) for use with high altitude spyplanes in 1941, where, with a dual fuel prechamber jet ignition RCCI system, they could turn off the spark ignition and still run the engine at over 50,000 feet altitude - where normally the very low dielectric strength of the atmosphere causes a total breakdown of the conventional high voltage ignition system. 😬 I have a very detailed paper on it available to read via the Aircraft Engine Historical Society. enginehistory.org/References/Rin…

That Irish trains can depart a station *early* is hilariously stupid... And easily solved (stay still at the station until scheduled departure time)
