POLICE SERGEANT AVOIDS JAIL AFTER MAKING INDECENT IMAGES OF KIDS. ⛔️⛔️⛔️ A Northamptonshire Police sergeant has received a 12‑month suspended prison sentence after admitting to making 80 indecent images of children, including material involving girls as young as four. Ross Coleman, 42, was sentenced at Leicester Crown Court after pleading guilty to three offences of making indecent images between October 2016 and October 2018. Judge Rhona Campbell told him he had “provided a market for images of the sexual abuse of children”, stressing that such crimes directly contribute to the exploitation of vulnerable victims. Police executed a warrant at Coleman’s former family home in Higham Ferrers. Officers seized several items, including his personal mobile phone, which contained thumbnail images linked to videos he had streamed to his Smart TV. Over a two‑year period, Coleman downloaded 80 files depicting child sexual abuse. Forty‑five were classified as category A, the most serious level. A further 20 were category B and 15 category C. Investigators also found more than 100 additional files with similar names that had been accessed during the same timeframe. Coleman was sentenced to 12 months’ imprisonment, suspended for 18 months. He must complete 120 hours of unpaid work and 35 days of rehabilitation activity. He is also subject to a Sexual Harm Prevention Order restricting his access to the internet. Judge Campbell emphasised the real‑world harm caused by such offending, telling the court that every image represented a child who had been abused and would carry the impact for life. Coleman resigned from Northamptonshire Police in February. Following the conclusion of the criminal case, he will now face a gross misconduct hearing. Detective Constable Jason Cullum, who led the investigation, said the outcome should serve as a warning to anyone who believes they can view indecent images without consequence. He noted that offenders risk losing their families, homes and employment, as Coleman did.
