2nd Lieut. Edgar ‘Eddie’ Folker, born in Harlesden 1885. Over 6ft 3”, a motor agent with his own business before the war and a member of Thames Rowing Club. He enlisted on 13 Aug 1914. He was killed by gas near Verbranden Molen in Zillebeke near Ypres 19 Feb 1915. #LestWeForget

Leonard Ewbank went to St.Bees, Cumbria and Queens College, Oxford. He was ​​Gazetted 2nd Lieut in 5th Bn Border Regt. He was gassed in Jan. 1915 and killed the following year. (His younger brother John Ewbank was kia 30 Nov : 1917 and recommended for a posthumous V.C.)

Lieut. David Cross MC, a keenl rider, gazetted 16 Lancers in 1911. He was sent to France in 1914 and wounded that October 1914 and sent home. Twice mentioned in Sir John French’s dispatches and awarded the MC he was then killed in action near Ypres 21 February 1915.

Capt Robert Pakenham from Headon Hall, Alum Bay, Isle of Wight, of the Munster Fusiliers died of his wounds in Boulogne Military Hospital 17 Jan: 1918. A veteran of the Boer War, he was married with 3 children. His brother Charles had died in 1915. #WeRememberThem #WW1 #FWW

Remembered mostly for his long-standing portrayal of Sherlock Holmes, Basil Rathbone was awarded the Military Cross during #WW1 - on one occasion going out on reconnaissance disguised as a tree. Established as a Shakespearean actor before the war he went on to Hollywood fame.
