As a basketball fan I’m glad Hurley didn’t get a tech for what he did to the ref at the end of the game. Would’ve ruined the moment. But at the same time.. how did he not get one 😭🤣

Buyouts need to be paid for transfer portal acquisitions. Programs should be compensated for their development. Same as a transfer fee in Europe.

@Grant_Shirley4 You’re right. But the problem for guys with those uncertainties is it rarely happens for them with the team that draft them

Still not sure that I see Wagler as a high end lead guard at the next level without major leaps in his strength/speed/athleticism, but I do believe in him as an impactful secondary creator with size next to other playmakers and a solid defensive infrastructure The fit with the Hawks is pretty appealing for that reason

I don’t care what he did against those Wizards JV squads, I’m good on Kuminga. If you want to pick up the option to utilize the large expiring fine, but you absolutely can’t extend him right now. He’s killing you whenever he’s out there.

Per @PivotFade... The Hawks had a 75% defensive rebound rate (very good!) with Okongwu on the floor tonight. That dropped to 16.7% (!!!) when he was off the floor. Atlanta got exactly 1 defensive rebound in the 10 minutes with Gueye at center.
Brad Rowland@BTRowland

The Hawks suffer their 2nd loss in the last 16 games. Atlanta led by 16 early but couldn't hold that advantage and fall by a 109-102 final. Hawks only committed 4 TOV in the entire game, but shot 39% from the field. Rematch on Monday in Atlanta. @LockedOnHawks coming later.

It be some fans actually saying Okongwu isn’t the problem. He’s clearly the weakest link in the starting lineup. If you’re gonna be that small at center you at least have to be quicker than other centers. He’s just as slow as a 7’2 center

@Grant_Shirley4 The losses aren’t on him, but watching him play gets very frustrating and with our roster/lineups, he has to play bigger/do more. He needs to have a bigger impact more often, and players can’t be as confident as they are attacking him

There’s a segment of Hawks Twitter that no matter what happens in the game, after every loss, even when the team has won for a month straight, is like.. “Yeah OO just not gonna cut it”

@HawksFanTV A game vs someone like queta is the perfect encapsulation. A guy who knows he’s not a star out competes him. He doesn’t suck but he’s doesn’t do enough well to have an average motor

OO as the full time starter just not gonna cut it if we want to be serious. Yeah, he can shoot a couple 3s a game but when that’s not happening, there’s no other value he provides as it currently stands. Mightily regressed as a defender and paint finisher.

The combine measurements and ultimate decisions teams make with regards to the guards in this draft will be fascinating

@JordanPushedOff @Grant_Shirley4 It’s definitely better to get a top 4 pick. No question! And all the best teams feature multiple lottery players someone’s. But other than the Celtics and cavs the last 10 champs have been led by late lottery and later first rd picks

Chet is the only notable top 5 pick drafted by his team across 7 out of the last 8 NBA Champions For the “teams can never win without drafting a top 5 pick” crowd Sure it makes it easier, but it’s also just an excuse for incompetence.

Have we actually seen a legit healthy 8-11 seed intentionally tank out of the play-in race? Feels like that’s a non-issue that’s being brought up Not sure that option 1 would make that any more appealing of a strategy than the current system given that the lottery would determine every pick 1-18 and there’s no floor
Sam Quinn@SamQuinnCBS

I’m not sure how options 1 and 3 curb tanking? They just move the incentive. Option 1 incentivizes teams to tank out of the play-in and into the bottom 10. Option 3 incentivizes tanking into bottom five. Would need more details to fully understand option 2 and the win floor.

@SamQuinnCBS The jazz have loads of talent. They’ve spent 3 years actively trying not to win

I don’t know if the Jazz would’ve tanked this year if they’d gotten Cooper Flagg. By making tanking less valuable the NBA incentivized the Jazz to do it longer. The goal is to make bad teams better as quickly as possible not moralize over the reasons why they’re bad.
Benjamin Smith@Benjiman31

So true. If teams who don't have talent get talent then they'll stop being bottom dwellers sooner. Opening it up for more teams to qualify for the top pick potentially extends bottom dwelling behavior. It's terrible.

@SIChrisMannix Only 6 Of the 12 playoff seeds right now and 1 of the last 4 champions are significantly featuring a player they picked top 4 in the lottery, and 2 of the 8 teams in play-in position
