#OnThisDay 1984. South Wales miners’ leaders vow ‘total non-cooperation’ with a £50,000 High Court fine imposed on the union for picketing of the Port Talbot steelworks. The fine is the result of new laws passed by the Thatcher government against secondary picketing.

#OnThisDay 1984. At Port Talbot 500 pickets, including 200 miners’ wives, formed at the steelworks in an attempt to stop convoys of lorries from leaving. Police arrested 34 people including 7 women.

In the last year, BP have paid out almost $15bn to shareholders, as their profits soar. At the same time, millions more pensioners are being plunged into fuel poverty with removal of winter fuel payment. Absolutely sickening. The Government have the power to fix this.

Good to see this analysis of the Welsh lives being saved after implementing a national 20mph default urban/village limit. This echoes evidence from across UK and beyond that 20mph/30km limits reduces death and injury. Data talks louder than even the shoutiest of opposers.

Right I have gone through the latest 20mph data for Wales and have made this video. However, I know many of you prefer a thread so I've done that as well. Long story short, 20mph seems to be working VERY well and is already paying for itself. [Thread]

Yet more data showing that the 20mph limit in Wales is highly effective at reducing crashes. They show a reduction in road casualties on 20mph and 30mph roads combined. From Jan - March 2024: ⬇️19% compared with the previous quarter ⬇️26% lower than the same quarter in 2023 These are the lowest recorded figures apart from during the Covid pandemic. 377 casualties were reported on 20mph and 30 mph roads combined between Jan-Mar compared with 463 casualties in the previous quarter.
