This was a Norfolk field #pond. It is now a #ghostpond. It was filled in many decades ago to get more crop. Not much crop this year tho! The deep tractor ruts show how wet it is. Probably a tractor almost sunk into it. We should bring more of these lost ponds back to life

TOP TIP 1: An overgrown #pond in need of scrub management. Wherever possible clear scrub on the south & west sides of the pond to let the morning sun in & to keep the pond warm in winter. Coppice down to stumps #norfolkpondsweek

OUT TODAY! Mardle: Daily Rhythms of a Pond. I have collaborated with musician and sound artist Tom Fisher to create an album of pond sounds. The album tells the story of a day in the life of a pond, from the burning midday sun to the cool of night. skupina.bandcamp.com/album/mardle-d…

A new album out today showcases the rhythms of pond life. Musician Tom Fisher, aka Action Pyramid, has teamed up with ecologist Dr Jack Greenhalgh for Mardle, which will appeal to curious nature lovers and those who enjoy unwinding to soundscapes 🐸🎶➡️ brnw.ch/21wDNyz

We just LOVE a before & after photo... Overgrown & poached by cattle, this precious site on a unique Norfolk common has become a freshwater oasis within 1 year! All of these amazing plants (Stoneworts, BLPW & more) are from the precious pond seed bank.

This was a an unproductive bit of a field until 2015. But this pic shows what happens if you resurrect a #ghostpond. No more effective means of environmental gain in farmland. But seemingly the lowest priority in agri-schemes. Can you help @TonyJuniper?

**We must give #floodplain land back to our rivers**. Farming floodplains, like this one on the Great Ouse, is awful for river water quality, carbon & species & precarious for the farmer. We urgently need to #farmback from our rivers @greatousert

2/3: We have seen an array of classic pingo pond plants returning to the #ghostponds including many rare species. The work is so positive. It shows that we can bring back the richest of British habitats from the "dead" in less than one year!!!

Just found this tiny fella who must have fallen a long way from nest but seems ok. Tiny bit of food and water anything else to be done? I know chances of survival slim. Anyone know what kind of bird? Thanks

I've definitely changed my mind on dog legislation in the past few years. We should change the law to the US stance of having them on lead everywhere except public areas. There are too many badly behaved dogs and they are causing too many problems for people and wildlife.
Alex Lees@Alexander_Lees

Vandalism of signs asking dog walkers to keep dogs on a lead seasonally is widespread in the Peak District. When reminded about the rules people are typically abusive. See also open fires.
